After its initial release in 2011, Minecraft rapidly rose to prominence, becoming a multibillion-dollar industry. The Microsoft-owned game has been lauded for its innovative crafting systems and free-form gameplay, which encourage players to think outside the box.

The success of Minecraft can be attributed in part to its modding community, where die-hard fans with some technical know-how make and share mods with other players. If you want to improve Minecraft’s performance or build a world out of candy, all you have to do is do a quick search online and you’ll find an overwhelming number of options.

With so many add-ons and tools available for PC players, we figured we’d compile a list of the best Minecraft mods to spice up your block-building adventures. Keep checking back as we add more and more add-ons to this list.

Organize Mods (Minecraft Forge Mod)

If you’re just getting started with modding, you should know that it’s best to use a specialized program made to keep all of your mods in order and prevent any potential conflicts. In addition to facilitating the development of such additions, Minecraft Forge simplifies the process of doing so.

This is the standard method of altering Minecraft and serves as the basis for the majority of the mods you’ll find on the web. In addition, Forge is updated alongside new versions of Minecraft, guaranteeing that it will always work with the most recent release of the game.

Boost Visuals and Performance (Optifine Mod / Fastcraft Mod)

These updates are made with both casual and serious gamers in mind. If you have a powerful computer and want to see how far Minecraft’s blocky visuals can be pushed, you should download Optifine, a mod that adds support for high definition textures and more fine-grained control over the game’s visual settings.

Fastcraft, on the other hand, is a must-have for players on lower-end machines, especially those who have a plethora of mods installed. If your computer is mid-range, you should get the best performance by installing both.

Though Minecraft is fantastic overall, the game’s stock map needs some polishing. The JourneyMap mod simplifies movement by giving you a comprehensive view of the world in both mini-map and full-size forms. The mapping process occurs in real time, so you can be sure you’re getting the most up-to-date information possible as you travel.

JourneyMap Mod for Minecraft [1.12.2][1.11.2][1.7.10][1.6.4]

If you have JourneyMap installed, it will instantly generate maps for any world when you log in, letting you quickly find your way to your destination. This add-on works in both single-player and multiplayer worlds, allowing you to see the names of monsters, animals, villagers, pets, named mobs, and other players in your immediate vicinity.

Add More Block Customization (Chisel Mod / Carpenter’s Blocks Mod)

After a while of working with Minecraft’s basic block types, you might start to wish for more variety in how you can embellish your creations. When you combine the two options we provide here, you’ll have access to a much wider variety of building blocks than before.

The Chisel mod adds a wide variety of new decorative blocks to Minecraft, such as Energized Voidstone, Cloud Blocks, Concrete, and many others. Similar to this is the mod known as Carpenter’s Blocks, which adds new block varieties and the ability to make in-game slopes.

Organize Items More Easily (Inventory Tweaks Mod / Not Enough Items Mod / WAILA Mod)

In Minecraft, you’ll never stop accumulating new resources, many of which you won’t know what to do with. As a result, you may want to install some add-ons that allow you to categorize your inventory and quickly access item descriptions. Here, you’ll find three add-ons that work together to improve the efficiency of stock management.

The first is Inventory Tweaks, a mod that allows you to quickly and easily organize your inventory and chests with a single click or key combination and automatically replaces broken tools. The Not Enough Items mod comes next, and it contains a complete inventory of all items and their respective crafting recipes. As a final touch, there is the What Am I Looking At addon for Not Enough Items, which displays the mod from which an item originates when the player hovers over it.

Add More Biomes and Mobs (Biomes O’ Plenty Mod / Lotsomobs Mod)

Increasing the variety of Minecraft’s biomes and animal inhabitants is a simple way to shake things up in the game. Biomes O’ Plenty is a mod that fills in the first half, restoring or adding more than 90 different biomes to the game that were either removed or left out in earlier editions of Minecraft. New species of plants, flowers, and trees quickly populate these regions after they are established.

After that is taken care of, you may wish to download the Lotsomobs mod, which adds a wide variety of animals to Minecraft, such as birds, fish, lions, mammoths, snakes, dinosaurs, and more. In addition, specific add-ons provide drop rates for specific materials that can be used to create game-changing customizations like weapons and armor.

Create New Structures Instantly (Instant Massive Structures Mod)

While the ability to build and the freedom to express one’s imagination are two of Minecraft’s greatest strengths, players who aren’t as adept builders may find it difficult to fill their worlds with interesting structures. We suggest the Instant Massive Structures mod, which makes it simple to place pre-made buildings anywhere in your world.

Over 800 unique buildings, ranging from skyscrapers to underground mines, are included in this mod to help you quickly populate your world with interesting architecture. This mod simplifies the building process by requiring only one block per structure to be crafted.

Add More Craftable Items (Decocraft Mod / Bibliocraft Mod)

The addition of fine furnishings and ornaments can transform even the simplest dwelling into a comfortable sanctuary. This is why we’ve provided two add-ons that enhance the already substantial selection of decorations available in Minecraft’s default installation. The first is Decocraft, a mod that expands your inventory with more than 300 recipes for decorative items like furniture, silverware, lamps, and even beer kegs.

The second is Bibliocraft, a storage-centric variation on the Decocraft theme. Bookcases, armor stands, display cases, and various types of tables are just some of the things that can be made with this. Both of these add-ons will greatly improve your ability to decorate like a pro and give your buildings a unique feel.

Add More Food Types (Pam’s Harvestcraft Mod / Still Hungry Mod)

Perhaps you see yourself more as an agriculturalist than as a master decorator or skilled craftsman. If that’s the case, you should probably download some add-ons that expand your farming and cooking possibilities. We’ve highlighted two addons that, when used together, greatly expand your options for tasty new meals.

The Still Hungry mod adds roughly 50 new recipes, allowing you to make dishes like tacos, apple pies, and of course, zombie burgers, that weren’t available in vanilla Minecraft. Pam’s Harvestcraft mod adds 60 new crops and some cooking tools.

Improve Minecarts (Railcraft Mod / Steve’s Carts Mod)

The default rail system in Minecraft can be fun to explore, but it could use some work in a few key areas. The Railcraft mod makes it easier to concentrate on building a railroad if you so desire. This modification expands your locomotive possibilities by letting you connect carts, set up a signaling system, and build multiple varieties of track.

Another mod is Steve’s Carts, which adds 25 different carts to the game to facilitate activities like mining, building rails, farming wheat, and general transportation. The new carts all look different and have their own special animations to make the game more interesting.

Add More Weapon Types (Quiverbow Mod)

Installing the Quiverbow mod, which adds around 30 new weapon types to the game, is a good idea if you’re tired of killing Creepers with vanilla Minecraft’s weapons. Crossbows, rocket launchers, and rifles make up the bulk of their arsenals, though some more unusual weapons are also present.

The Potatosser is one such device, and it can be used to hurl deadly spheres of starch at your foes. The Powder Knuckle is a good choice if you like to get in close quarters with your enemies, and many of these weapons are strong enough to break most block types with a single blow.

Add More Tools (Tinker’s Construct Mod)

Producing your own food and expanding your base are both made much simpler with a well-stocked toolkit. While the axes and shovels that come with Minecraft will get you through most situations, the Tinker’s Construct add-on greatly increases your capability to create, repair, and even alter your arsenal.

An assortment of books that can be crafted in this mod provide instructions for using crafting tables to make and improve various tools. In addition, Tinker’s Construct enables you to cast wooden items and smelt metals.

Use Jetpacks (Simply Jetpacks Mod / Redstone Flux Mod)

Get jetpacks if you’re tired of walking everywhere. Installing the Simply Jetpacks mod will allow you to soar to great heights, allowing you to see faraway objects with ease.

There is a wide variety of jetpacks available in this mod, each of which can be made from a unique set of materials and is organized into a distinct tier based on its intended purpose. More advanced jetpacks have special features like an emergency hover mode that prevents the player from dying in the event of a fall. Redstone Flux is required for jetpacks, so be sure to put some in.

Add More Interesting Villagers (Minecraft Comes Alive Mod)

Since there aren’t many ways for players to interact with the villagers in Minecraft, the game can make you feel isolated at times. The Minecraft Comes Alive mod transforms the game into a full role-playing experience, allowing you to strike up conversations with and form relationships with any NPC you come across.

You can give your character a distinct look and play around with 13 new professions and over 500 skins thanks to this mod. People in the village have sexes, names, and can be persuaded to start families with you if you court them. Integrating Minecraft Comes Alive into an existing multiplayer server is simple, and server administrators will have complete access to all of the mod’s configuration options.

Explore New Worlds (Galacticraft Mod / JurassiCraft Mod / Thaumcraft Mod)

Most of us have probably explored every single one of Minecraft’s predefined biomes by now. The subsequent mods are like applying a new coat of paint to the original Minecraft, taking you to a whole new dimension. Galacticraft is the first space-themed add-on, and it adds a solar system that you can travel around in your own spaceship.

After that, we have Jurassicraft, a Minecraft add-on that features dinosaurs and ancient artifacts. Lastly, for those who appreciate fantasy and wish to study magic in Minecraft, Thaumcraft is a fantastic mod. If you look around for a while, you’re bound to come across a theme-altering mod for Minecraft that suits your taste.

Instantly Build Bridges and Tunnels (Rope Bridge Mod / Caterpillar Mod)

Exploring in Minecraft is great fun, but we don’t recommend digging through a huge cave to reach a wide chasm you can’t cross. We’ve included two mods to speed up the process of navigating minefields and large gaps to help alleviate this problem.

The Rope Bridge mod does exactly what its name suggests, allowing you to build rope bridges with a simple point-and-shoot system using a grappling gun. The Caterpillar mod, which provides a drill that can be modified to create 33 mineshafts, complements it nicely.

HOW TO INSTALL MINECRAFT MODS

How to install Minecraft mods

Thankfully, gone are the days when cumbersome rituals were necessary to install a mod. Launchers for modpacks have made it simpler than ever to experiment with different sets. A manual installation of mods is still an option for those who want a more tailored experience; in this case, players should be careful to ensure that their mods are compatible with their version of Minecraft. Because many older mods either no longer get updates or have been passed on to new keepers, mod managers like MultiMC are incredibly useful.

Also, many other add-ons cannot function without Fabric, which is why the Fabric API is so widely used. You’ll need them for a few of the alterations we outline below. A warning, though: some mods may not work with the latest version of Minecraft, so you may need to revert to an earlier version of Forge to use them. This tutorial should help you install Minecraft mods on older versions of the game.

Minecraft mod managers

MultiMC
MultiMC is the way to go if you want complete command over your Minecraft instances and mods. If you have multiple preferred settings, for example, you can keep the respective mod packs isolated from one another. Furthermore, it serves as a unified launcher for a wide variety of modpacks, including those from CurseForge, Feed The Beast, Technic, and more.

CurseForge
The CurseForge launcher will allow you to play the best modpacks on this list, or quickly connect to a server that is using one. You may already be familiar with it because it is a simple mod launcher that can manage modifications for a wide variety of games. You can find a wide variety of modpacks for Minecraft there, and for any version of the game.

Nourish The Monster
However, if you’re only interested in loading up specific modpacks like FTB Revelation or FTB Infinity, then using the Feed The Beast launcher is the way to go. As FTB’s collection of modpacks continues to grow, it provides a convenient way to experiment with different gameplay styles without having to maintain your own mods list.

BEST MINECRAFT MODPACK

Modpacks can completely transform your Minecraft experience by adding new features like extensive research trees, quests, and even Pokémon. Instead of manually compiling a list of mods and ensuring that they are all compatible with the latest version of the game, you can simply download a pre-made modpack and start playing right away. All of these expansion packs are compatible with the designated launcher, making setup and initial playthrough a breeze.

 SkyFactory 4

Version 1.12.2 of Minecraft

SkyFactory 4 brings significant improvements to the quality of life for players of Minecraft by providing the most advanced version of the skyblock style of modpack/map to date. Some parts of resource gathering, like sieving, no longer require the laborious time investment of several years in Minecraft. SkyFactory 4 also includes a new ‘Prestige’ system that lets you unlock new mods and tech in an open progression system that ports across your different worlds, and it automatically tracks what you’ve accomplished in an advancement system (without locking you into following it).

FTB Revelation

The Minecraft 1.12 version.
Launch the Feed the Beast Machine Gun!

Revelation is a massive “everything but the kitchen sink” style pack, packed to the gills with mods of every imaginable flavor. Revelation combines a wide variety of mods, from the more well-known ones like Immersive Engineering and EnderIO to the more niche ones like Botania and Thaumcraft, to give you a near-endless selection of customization options. Revelation is a mammoth pack, taking up the majority of the Feed the Beast launcher and leaving you feeling overwhelmed.

Engineers Life 2

Version 1.18 of Minecraft

Engineer’s Life 2 revolves around the fantastic Immersive Engineering mod, the details of which can be found in our separate mods section. Improved features, side quests, new areas to discover, and an emphasis on building cool tech-focused structures at your own pace are just some of the new additions. Improvements to underground dungeons, mob spawners, and quest-based advancement are also included for the explorer in all of us.

Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons

It’s Minecraft, version 1.12.2

Rather take the road less traveled in search of uncharted territory and/or buried treasure? Instead of sitting in your dirt hut looking at complicated recipes, you should be venturing out and exploring in the roguelike Adventures and Dungeons. You’ll never run out of things to see in Minecraft, what with the numerous mods that add new structures and dungeons to the overworld as well as new dimensions like the Twilight Forest, Aether, and Betweenlands. Thankfully, you can take whatever you find there with you thanks to upgraded backpacks, and then use a Nature’s Compass to locate the perfect biome for your trophy room.

Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons Modpacks 1.12.2 (250+ Quest) - 9Minecraft.Net

SevTech Ages

The latest version of Minecraft is 1.12.2.

SevTech Ages puts you in a world similar to that of Civilization’s eras, when your only technology was the ability to bang rocks together. Once you’ve mastered the fundamentals, you can continue your exploration of SevTech’s vast tech trees of achievements to gain access to new tools, blocks, and recipes, as well as the various mods used in them. If you enjoy progressing at a more leisurely pace, this is a great pack to take on with friends or solo.

Pixelmon

1.12.2 is the current stable release of Minecraft.

The Pixelmon mod brings Pokémon into Minecraft, and the Pixelmon modpack improves upon it with a few tweaks. Here, you can go on a quest to find the most obscure Pokémon in the world, capture them using pokéballs you buy or make in towns, breed them to improve their stats, and then challenge other players, NPC trainers, or boss/mega-evolved Pokémon in battle. Pixelmon is a one-of-a-kind experience that captures some of the best aspects of the Pokémon games, and it’s also supremely open-ended, making it the perfect playground for making a multiplayer server (or just messing around living your best trainer life).

BEST MINECRAFT MODS

Minecolonies

The latest version of Minecraft is 1.18.1.

As a massive add-on, Minecolonies transforms Minecraft into a simulation of urban planning and development. If you’d rather explore than construct, but still want to leave your mark in Minecraft, consider taking on the role of colony caretaker. You will be responsible for overseeing the activities of non-player characters (NPCs) in the village, deciding where to build, and leading guard duty in the event of monster attacks. You can play this game with a group of people by hosting it on a server.

Biomes O’Plenty

Version 1.18.1 of Minecraft

Several changes have been made to Minecraft worlds since the “Update That Changed The World” in late 2013. More than seventy-five additional biomes are added by Biomes O’Plenty, including everything from brushland and coral reefs to lavender fields and foreboding woods, as well as tundra and wasteland. In order to use it, you must generate a new world with the ‘Biomes O’Plenty’ option enabled. This is time well spent, however, because you will be able to explore parts of Minecraft you have never seen before.

Journeymap

Version 1.18.1 of Minecraft

You can use a map to keep track of your general location or your intended destination. And yet, one can always do better.

Take a look at Google Maps and you’ll have a good idea of what this mod does for Minecraft. To be more precise, it enables players to see a more up-to-date map in-game, on the mini-map, and online via a web browser. This add-on is mandatory if your next planned trip will take you far away from your safe haven.

Twilight Forest

Update to Minecraft 1.17.1

Enjoy taking risks? This modification creates a new, heavily wooded, perpetually dark realm where both valuable treasures and dangerous monsters lurk. To open a portal in a flower-filled pool of water, simply toss a diamond into the water. Rich rewards await the most intrepid explorers of hedge mazes, hollow hills, enchanted groves, glaciers, and lich towers.

Pam’s HarvestCraft 2

Version 1.17.1 of Minecraft

The sequel to the widely-played original, Pam’s HarvestCraft 2 consists of four distinct but interconnected mods. Pam’s HarvestCraft is the best way to give Minecraft a new lease on life. It expands the range of possible foods, from those you can find or make to those you can grow in your garden, including dozens of new species of fruiting trees. Create a Stardew Valley-inspired world in Minecraft with Pam’s HarvestCraft, and master dishes as varied as mac and cheese and jelly donuts.

Fire and Ice: Dragons

Version 1.16.5 of Minecraft

Ice and Fire: Dragons is a modification created by Raptorfarian and Alexthe666 that includes a wide variety of fantastical beasts. There are many different types of monsters on the list, such as hippogryphs, gorgons, dread liches, sea serpents, hydras, pixies, cyclopes, trolls, death worms, and ghosts. But the mod’s real draw is its support for dragons, which you can tame, ride, and even hunt. There is special loot to be found in dragon caverns, which can be discovered by crafting dragon equipment or searching for dragon eggs.

Create

In Minecraft, 1.18.1 is the current stable release.

Automatization is the main focus of Create, which improves upon existing Minecraft mechanisms. Different gears and cogwheels have been introduced for you to try out, as the entire system relies on rotational power and kinetics. Of course, you can also use gearboxes, chain drives, conveyor belts, clutches, pulleys, and levers to power your bizarre and wonderful inventions.

Botania

Update to Minecraft 1.16.5

There are mods for Minecraft that add potent magical items. There are those who include complex machinery. The only thing that Botania does differently is add flowers, but man, are they impressive. A bouquet of healing flowers. Wildlife-nourishing blooms. Turning hostile mobs into friendly ones with the help of flowers. Cake-loving flowers, or something like that. I almost forgot to mention that you can use flowers to open a mystical doorway to the realm of elves. Botania is the mod for you if you’re looking for a radical departure from the norm.

Astral Sorcery

Hacks for Fallout 4: Nuclear Passwords
Free Minecraft Commands
The most sought-after Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats
Calling in the GTA 5 cheats
Tips and tricks for the Sims 4
Evolution sped up with Ark cheats

Release 1.15.2 of Minecraft

Astral Sorcery provides an amazing array of magical options for those who are interested in astrology or who simply enjoy staring at the night sky. All the major building and rituals take place at night, under the watchful gaze of the stars and constellations, giving the already dangerous Minecraft nights a much-needed layer of complexity. Even more impressively, Astral Sorcery allows you to set up a stellar travel network to move between locations instantly, which is a huge boon for multiplayer servers, and its structures are among the most aesthetically pleasing in all of Minecraft, with gorgeous marble fountains and ritual platforms.

Witchcraft & Wizardry

Version 1.16.5 of Minecraft

Despite its mod-like presentation, Witchcraft & Wizardry is actually just a very impressive custom map. Because of how faithfully and imaginatively it recreates the Harry Potter universe, it’s a fantastic option for a solo or co-op playthrough. Taking part in quests, solving puzzles, and crafting your own path to Hogwarts, it plays out like a real role-playing game.

Additional Structures

The latest version of Minecraft is 1.12.2.

Adding everything from simple logs, rocks, and bushes to ruined buildings, dungeons with traps and treasure, and much more, Additional Structures is a much-needed cosmetic toolbox for Minecraft. Additional Structures adds a lot of variety to the world by randomly generating 155 new buildings. The best part is that it’s compatible with some of the best biome expansion mods, including Traverse, Biomes O’ Plenty, and Biome Bundle.

Immersive Engineering

Version 1.16.6 of Minecraft

Red pipes and single blocks that spit out resources or control vast functions characterize the majority of Minecraft’s technology mods, giving them an appearance somewhere between sci-fi futuristic and black box technology. The methods used in Immersive Engineering are completely different and are based on a more realistic appearance and process. Wires you string carry electricity, which you can use to illuminate your bases and power your new machines, mine for more resources by crushing ores, mass-produce goods, and increase your population.

Optifine

Minecraft 1.7.2 and 1.18
Minecraft is not very efficient with either low or high processing speeds. It works surprisingly poorly on budget laptops and makes little use of a high-end computer’s additional power. In comes Optifine, a mod that improves Minecraft’s performance and visuals. It is common for framerates to increase by a factor of two thanks to the inclusion of high definition textures, smooth lighting, and other improvements. It is a common addition to Minecraft and is usually done first.

Just Enough Items (JEI)

Update to Minecraft 1.18
If you were using the older NotEnoughItems mod to search for materials and view all of the game’s recipes, you should switch to Just Enough Items instead. It’s commonly found in modpacks and is useful for discovering how to craft uncommon items.

Here’s What You’re Looking At (HWYLA)

Download link for Minecraft versions 1.12.2 and 1.16.3
It’s important to note that HWYLA is a spinoff of the once-popular utility What Am I Looking At. The name of the block or object your cursor is over will appear as a tooltip. If you find yourself scratching your head over the identity of a block you’ve never seen before, this handy tool is often included in modpacks and is worth adding to your own collection.

GraveStone

Here’s the Minecraft version you’re looking for: 1.18.1
In Minecraft, if you get too distracted while exploring a cave or a mountain, or if you fall off a cliff while mining, you will die. When you lose everything in your stock because you wasted too much time looking for your chalk outline, it can be devastating. With GraveStone, when you die, you leave behind a grave block bearing your name that can be broken at any time to retrieve your belongings. In the hereafter!

Storage Drawers

The latest version of Minecraft is 1.18.1.
Can we assume that you’re wild at heart? Is your system an even bigger storage catastrophe? The satisfaction of finally having your storage areas clean and organized cannot be matched. If you’re playing the original version of Minecraft, this will feel like you’re pushing a boulder uphill. In a nutshell, Storage Drawers takes care of all the annoying details for you, and it does so in a sleek and sophisticated way. Drawer sets can be cut into fourths, halves, or made entirely, and the front even shows what’s inside and how much space it takes up. All of a sudden, neatniks and slobs can live together in peace.

MINECRAFT INTERFACE MODS

If you have a ton of add-ons for Minecraft installed, the game’s default user interface may no longer meet your needs. The following add-ons can be downloaded to enhance your Minecraft mod experience.

OPTIFINE / FASTCRAFT

In possession of a powerful computer? Optifine is a mod for Microsoft Windows that improves Minecraft’s visuals by allowing users to access more customization options and high-definition texture support. As an alternative, download Fastcraft if you’re playing on a potato; it makes a big difference in performance, especially when a lot of Minecraft mods are installed.

JOURNEYMAP

Having a clear destination is important for everyone. As you travel, Journeymap creates a map of your environment, allows you to bookmark useful locations, and notifies you of approaching monsters. Look at the finished product in-game as a minimap, in full screen, or in a third-party web browser.

NOT ENOUGH ITEMS

Not Enough Items (or NEI) is the cure for the agony of switching to a wiki while playing Minecraft. Using a sleek interface on Minecraft’s inventory screen, you can find the recipe for any item from any mod you have installed.

WAILA

WAILA, which is an acronym for “What Am I Looking At,” is a lifesaver if you’ve got a lot of mods loaded. Just select a block with the crosshair, and its identity will be revealed. In the case of some mods, this will also identify the mod from which it was generated; however, in the case of more recent mods, it will also provide information about the block’s current state, such as the amount of water in a tank or the battery’s charge. In order to use it, NEI is required.

INVENTORY TWEAKS

After installing Inventory Tweaks, you will question your life without it. When a tool’s durability runs out, it is replaced in the hotbar; when a stack of blocks is depleted, it is automatically replenished; and a simple middle click sorts your chests and inventory. It can be altered in countless ways.

PLAYABLE MINECRAFT IN A CHEST

Mini Minecraft is a functional rendition of the game that fits in a treasure chest. YouTube user SethBling demonstrated the mod’s functionality and provided a download link in the video’s description. All of the features from the base game are present in this mod, with the exception that everything is managed via a Minecraft chest.

Leaving the chest will reveal your actions in a 2D timeline, as if you had been working in that mode the whole time.

CONTROLLING

Enjoyably straightforward, this mod simplifies the process of juggling multiple Minecraft mod installations by allowing you to assign hotkeys to specific blocks. When using this interface tweak, you can quickly learn the shortcut for any given control by typing its name into a search bar. Even better, you can narrow it down to only report instances of overlapping keybindings, making it easy to resolve the issue quickly.

MINECRAFT CREATIVE MODS

Many players enjoy Minecraft because of the opportunity to build incredible creations. The following enhancements, such as additional wood types and proper furniture, will greatly increase your scope for originality.

CHISEL 2

As of now, there is only one cobblestone texture in Minecraft. The number of teeth on Chisel 2 is 24. It replaces the default textures of many of the game’s blocks, as well as blocks that come with other mods on this list, so you can give your in-game creations any look you like.

CARPENTER’S BLOCKS

Even though cubes are awesome, sometimes you just want a slope, right? These slopes, as well as beds, buttons, doors, flowerpots, torches, and more, are provided by Carpenter’s Blocks, and their textures can be changed to match those of any other block. Considering purchasing a netherrack ladder? The necessary upgrade is this one right here.

DECOCRAFT

Decocraft is the mod for you if you want a little more variety when decorating your world. Chairs, tables, bowls, bottles, lamps, stuffed toys, beer kegs, and a kitchen sink are all added as new craftable items. Look into the Wiki to see the full breadth of possibilities; the list is practically endless.

PIG MANURE

There is one thing that Minecraft is lacking, and that is poop. To that end, this simple Minecraft mod not only makes it so that your pigs occasionally defecate in steaming piles of the proverbial, but also gives you a new resource to master in Minecraft. Gather the feces and use it as a substitute for bone meal in your garden. On the other hand, you can put them in a furnace and get bricks to use in construction, just don’t use them with white wool.

PAM’S HARVESTCRAFT

This mod adds over 1,100 new foods and items to Minecraft, including 60 new crops, 17 new fish, tofu for vegetarian and vegan dishes, and 36 new trees that either produce fruit or items. In the end, you have a Minecraft diet that is both lavish and healthy. Using it in conjunction with Hunger Overhaul and The Spice of Life, which both inflict negative consequences for not eating properly, will make this a requirement rather than a fun addition to vanilla Minecraft.

Having food stored away means nothing if your cooking skills aren’t up to par. The Cooking for Blockheads mod features a multiblock kitchen built out of five brand new blocks. Think of it as Minecraft but for cooking, as it includes a kitchen set up complete with a table, oven, sink, tool rack, and fridge. With this mod and Pam’s Harvestcraft, the possibilities in the kitchen are practically endless.

MINECRAFT EXPLORATION MODS

The nomadic lifestyle may appeal more to some than the construction industry. The following add-ons will either improve the world-generation process, provide you with additional explorable worlds, or provide you with the necessary tools to do so. Off to the Known and Unknown Planets!

BIOMES O’PLENTY

All right, let’s begin in the Overworld. From the Alps to the Wasteland, Biomes O’Plenty adds a ridiculous 80 new biomes to Minecraft. Furthermore, it expands the available selection of tools, armor, food, and color, and provides a few extra building blocks.

LOTSOMOBS

LotsOMobs works similarly to Biomes O Plenty, except it adds 25 brand new mobs that can be used to populate your Minecraft world and give it a more realistic feel. Long gone are the days when squids ruled the oceans and free-range chickens foraged across Africa’s plains. This mod is for you if you’ve ever wished that giraffes, narwhals, seagulls, elephants, and even dinosaurs could appear in your game.

CANDYCRAFT

For those who have been avoiding the Nether because they find it to be too hellish, this mod makes it much more accessible. In CandyCraft, players of Minecraft who have a sweet tooth can discover a new world composed entirely of candies. Combating candy-coated monsters with marshmallow weapons and honeycomb armor is all part of the fun in this sickly sweet world. Hansel and Gretel, you must be chuffed.

THE TWILIGHT FOREST

With Twilight Forest, you can create a portal to a new perpetually dark, forested realm full of new mobs and challenging encounters as you explore further, and it’s much easier than some of the other exploration Minecraft mods on this list.

GALACTICRAFT

Galacticraft is a massive mod that allows you to visit, explore, and even colonize an entire solar system, allowing you to go where no Steve has gone before. The planet-hopping is nice, but the mod’s real selling point is the herculean effort it takes to break free of Earth’s infamously recalcitrant grasp.

As you progress through the missions, you’ll unlock new ways to play, such as constructing a moonbase, customizing your spaceship, and battling evolved mobs on Mars.

BETTERPORTALS

However, portals do pose a minor challenge when venturing into uncharted dimensions in Minecraft. You have to wait through a loading screen, which is annoying in and of itself, but also terrifying because you can’t see the world you’re about to enter.

BetterPortals is a Minecraft add-on that recreates portals so you can see which world you’re traveling to before actually entering it. As with any mod, there are some compatibility issues, so be sure to check out the download page.

QUIVERBOW

The bow and arrow, one of the oldest and most popular forms of weaponry, has received far too little attention in the mod community. Quiverbow radically changes the options for novice archers by giving them access to a wide variety of projectile-based tools.

This mod is the pinnacle for any aspiring Minecraft sniper, with everything from the simple crossbow to snow cannons and fireworks launchers.

MINECRAFT AUTOMATION MODS

There’s nothing better than having a well-established factory in your Minecraft base, mining and producing materials automatically so you never have to worry about running out. When used in tandem with the more advanced mods discussed below, the following packages provide nearly complete automation of your modded Minecraft experience.

ROPE BRIDGE MOD

In Minecraft, chasms are an incredibly annoying and common annoyance for players to encounter.

This mod will give you a portable grappling gun that will automatically build a bridge from where you are standing to where it is aimed, making mountaineering much simpler. It’s great for making fortifications in the air.

CATERPILLAR

Because digging is so essential to the game, someone devised this automated tunneling machine to let you spend your time doing more interesting things, like going on quests, fighting monsters, or redecorating your base.

Though you’ll have to put in some effort to create it, the time you save in virtual labor will be well worth it. This miner’s delight allows for customization thanks to a drill head that can be upgraded with new, better materials.

PROGRESSIVE AUTOMATION

This modification adds rudimentary automated tools for use in agricultural and forestry settings. The greatest advantage of Progressive Automation is that individual machines can be modernized incrementally, reducing the need for costly overhauls in the long run.

APPLIED ENERGISTICS 2

When stationed at a large outpost for any length of time, storage space quickly becomes a problem. In order to store items on hard drives that can be accessed wirelessly from anywhere in your base, you can convert matter into energy using Applied Energistics 2. For those of you who tend to hoard things, this will be of tremendous assistance.

BIG REACTORS

Want to be a nuclear engineer but don’t want to spend years in college and learn about physics? If so, you should download the Big Reactors mod. With Big Reactors, you can construct enormous, highly-customizable reactors to meet the energy needs of all the other industrial mods you’ve been playing with.

If you tinker too much and cause a meltdown, you can still keep an eye on your power plant from a distance thanks to its ability to communicate with ComputerCraft.

COMPUTERCRAFT AND RFTOOLS

Last but not least, we owe it to you, the reader, to bring up ComputerCraft. It’s a mod for Minecraft that adds fully-functional computers and various accessories. A set of RFTools for keeping tabs on and fixing up your intricate power grid is included as well. Both are must-haves for any kind of mechanized home base.

MINECRAFT EXPANSIVE MODS

The only mods left are the massive ones, which add significant features to Minecraft over the course of a long period of time. For the sake of your sanity, we advise taking on only one or two of these at a time, even if they are included in a mod pack. You will have reached their endgame and be unrivaled in your ability to control the situation.

DRACONIC EVOLUTION

Install the Draconic Evolution mod if you’ve already outfitted yourself in Minecraft diamonds and are looking for some new endgame gear to flaunt to your friends. Draconic Evolution not only adds a plethora of new, powerful weapons and armor, but it also features its own energy system that is essentially Minecraft’s equivalent to cold fusion.

There are also teleporters, mob spawners, and the ability to control the weather, in addition to a massive chest with crafting facilities. Simply put, it’s the best modification for players who are already experts in the default Survival mode.

THAUMCRAFT

Being a wizard is awesome everywhere you go, and Minecraft is no exception. You can use thaumcraft to create potent wands, golems that do your bidding, and tools infused with your essence by harnessing the mystical energies inherent to every item in the game.

It works splendidly with a number of other addons. Visit our tutorial on the Minecraft Hogwarts map if you’re in the mood for even more enchantment.

SIMPLY JETPACKS

To put it simply, jetpacks improve life. Everything. Therefore, this simple mod isn’t trying to overwhelm you with a plethora of new systems and recipes to learn; rather, it’s trying to grant players of vanilla Minecraft the ability to soar through the air at will.

Take to the skies with the help of Redstone Flux to get where you need to go faster and safer. There are plenty of rewards for putting in the effort to level up your jetpack’s armor and negate fall damage.

BLOOD MAGIC

Minecraft can get a little too fluffy and cute at times. Here’s where the modding community comes in, with their occult rituals and mystical twists on the standard fare. The most vile of all magics, Blood Magic, adds some new systems and mechanics centered on absorbing strength from the blood of enemies.

Gather enough life essence, and you can use it at a Blood Altar to make a Dagger of Sacrifice or other items.

HATS

This cosmetic mod adds over a hundred hats to Minecraft, ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime, giving you plenty of opportunities to surprise and even shock your friends. But you’ll have to do some exploring to find them, as they’re programmed to randomly spawn on mobs all over the world, like a squid wearing a phone booth or a creeper donning a sombrero.

PNEUMATICCRAFT

Using compressed air instead of electricity, PneumaticCraft is a risky but potentially lucrative mod. This mod adds many mechanical and automated features to Minecraft, such as air cannons, programmable drones, and various assembly machines.

We don’t know of any other Minecraft add-ons that come close to the quality of those two. Like the Minecraft maps that can take you anywhere in the world and the Minecraft servers that can further spice up your experience, these enhancements and tweaks will completely reshape your blocky bundle of joy and keep you playing for even longer. If you’re interested in staying up-to-date, you can find out what’s new in the upcoming versions of Minecraft (1.18 and 1.19 Wild).

For the time being, though, we’re eager to return to the world of Minecraft.
