There have been enormous hardware and software advancements as technology has developed over time. Both central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs) and the programs that use them are more powerful than ever. This article takes a look at some of this year’s PC games that put the most strain on your gaming rig in terms of graphics processing unit (GPU).

What are Graphics and Why are they so Important?

The visuals and the narrative of a game are probably the most crucial parts of the experience. The visuals in a game are crucial in determining whether or not a player will continue playing. That’s what a book’s cover looks like, or a movie’s trailer.

As the old adage goes, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” — and that certainly rings true for video games. Everyone doesn’t want or need high-end visuals when playing video games. After all, a fantastic story can sometimes make up for subpar visuals, but this isn’t always the case. This is why it’s crucial for games to have compelling narratives in addition to eye-catching visuals.

The integration of visuals into the plot and gameplay is more crucial than ever. The importance of visuals can easily be seen in Grand Theft Auto V. The game, which was released in 2013, is second only to Minecraft in terms of total sales.

Let’s check out some of this year’s most impressive GPU-heavy PC games.

List of Most GPU Intensive PC Games

1. Cyberpunk 2077

Among video games, Cyberpunk 2077 has the highest expectations. Created by the Polish studio CD Projekt, it’s an action role-playing video game. The Cyberpunk Franchise was the inspiration for this video game. The game’s narrative unfolds in a dystopian open world called Night City, which is divided into six areas. Players take on the role of V, a mercenary, in this first-person shooter. V is highly adaptable and can learn complex hacking and mechanical skills. In addition to a plethora of firearms, it also has melee options.

5. Call of Duty: Warzone

Adding to the already massive CoD series is Call of Duty: Warzone. It’s included in the base price of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for 2019, so there’s no need to buy anything extra to get in on the action. Plunder and Battle Royale are the game’s two primary game modes. Up to 150 players can compete in the game at once in the online multiplayer mode. Many players prefer the popular Battle Royale mode, which features a constantly shrinking map and pits them against other players in a race to the finish.

Plunder mode tasks players with gathering $1,000,000 worth of currency that has been scattered across the map. When time runs out, the stakes are doubled and the game continues. The team with the most money at the end of the round wins. When compared to previous console generations, the game’s visuals are a huge step up.

Players in Plunder mode must amass a million dollars by gathering currency from various locations. Once that’s over with, the game goes into overtime, at which point all winnings are increased by a factor of 1.5. The group with the most money at the end of the round wins. The game’s visuals are a significant step up from older consoles.

Storage 60 GB 60 GB

Never before has it been so stylish to leap between rooftops and drop kick zombies. The recommended specifications for Dying Light 2 are, to put it mildly, brutal, making it one of the more recent releases on this list. Playing at 1080p with 60 FPS on an RTX 2060 is recommended, but don’t count on running ultra or even high settings.

Though it has stunning visuals, Dying Light 2 is extremely demanding of a PC’s processing power. According to Digital Foundry’s analysis of Dying Light 2’s PC performance, the game is best played with a combination of medium and high settings in order to run smoothly on a 2060. You’ll need state-of-the-art PC hardware to run this game in 1440p ultra settings.

Storage 60 GB 60 GB

When running at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, Far Cry 6 requires a GTX 1080 and a Ryzen 5 3600X. To run this game at 4K, you’ll need a graphics card with at least 16 GB of VRAM, which rules out anything below an RTX 3090. To play this game at higher resolutions or with a frame rate of 120 frames per second, a powerful central processing unit is also required.

FAQs

Are games CPU or GPU intensive?

The answer to this question is entirely dependent on the game in question. Games like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, which feature a large number of procedurally generated objects (such as shadows, textures, terrain, etc.), are known for being particularly taxing on computer processing power. But games like Call of Duty: Warzone rely on GPUs for tasks like processing 2D and 3D graphics, rendering texture maps, and rendering fine-grained detail in textures.

Does RAM increase or affect FPS?

In most cases, this is not the case, as RAM is used to store information that must be immediately accessible in order to be fed to the CPU when needed. Therefore, it is more common to put the additional funds into the GPU instead of the RAM.

Does SSD increase FPS?

In most cases, a solid-state drive (SSD) can make a significant difference in how long it takes games to load and how much lag you experience during this process.

Final Words

We’ve never seen such visually stunning games before. Not only do many of these games offer an enjoyable narrative and/or gameplay experience, but they also look fantastic. It is our sincere wish that these games get your GPU nice and excited.
