Laptops designed specifically for gaming can be a bit of a minefield. They’re incredibly light and small, yet they pack a powerful processing punch. In addition to being more expensive, laptops lack the customizability and general sheer capability of desktop computers.

The Best Gaming Laptop of 2021

You won’t regret buying a gaming laptop if you require any of the advantages it has to offer!

We decided to compile a top 10 list of the best gaming laptops for 2022, despite the fact that most of them are pre-built and offer only a few configuration options. Comparing the features and performance of a number of different laptops is what we’ll be doing in this review.

HP Pavilion

It has a screen of 15.6 inches.

Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (High Definition)

Powered by Intel Core i5-8300H.

GTX 1050 Ti: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050

8 GB of DDR4

The Pros:

  • In this pricing range, you may expect good results.
  • Sleek and sophisticated style
  • It’s a fantastic deal!

The Cons:

  • There is no SSD-equipped version of this model.

About The Laptop

The HP Pavilion is a low-cost option to start things started on this list. From the angular speaker grill design to the selection of keyboard type and the Razer-esque green accents, despite its low price, it is simple to deduce that this laptop is a gaming device.

For gamers on a tight budget seeking for a gaming laptop that won’t break the bank, the internals are the most significant selling point.

Specifications:

Our Thoughts

The laptop has a quite aggressive design, as indicated in the introduction, especially for a budget laptop, as gaming laptops in this price range normally aim for something a little more discreet.

Regardless of how you feel about the laptop’s appearance, it’s impossible to dispute that it packs a powerful punch for its price.

The 8th generation i5-8300H is a quad-core processor with eight threads that can be tuned up to 4 GHz, it has an abundant 1 TB of internal storage, and 8 GB of RAM that will be more than plenty for gaming in 2022.

Since for graphics, the mobile GTX 1050 Ti is proof of the Pascal architecture’s capabilities, as it outperforms the previous-generation Maxwell mobile GPUs and outperforms Intel’s integrated graphics solutions.

It’s worth noting, though, that the GTX 1050 Ti’s mobile version isn’t the best graphics card on the market. For eSports and 1080p gaming, you can rest confident that it will be more than capable, but newer AAA games will surely put it to the test.

Ultimately, our only major complaint with this laptop is that HP doesn’t currently sell an SSD-equipped version of this laptop. SSDs are becoming increasingly popular and affordable, so even a smaller 256 GB SSD might appeal to some gamers.

MSI GV62 8RD

It has a screen of 15.6 inches.

Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (High Definition)

Powered by Intel Core i5-8300H.

GTX 1050 Ti: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050

Eight gigabytes of DDR4

The Pros:

  • A good 1080p gaming laptop on a tight budget.
  • Different options for storing files
  • Design with a lighted keyboard is aggressive.

The Cons:

  • Battery life isn’t the best.
  • When the fans are working hard, they can become quite noisy.

About The Laptop

The GV62 8RD from MSI is the next gaming laptop we’ll be looking at.

A red LED backlit keyboard and a large MSI Gaming logo on the back let you know right away that this is a gaming laptop, similar to the HP laptop we discussed earlier. And, of course, there are some new hardware features as well.

Specifications:

Our Thoughts

The MSI GV62 is a well-balanced machine, with a sleek dark grey body and a few red touches. In addition to its appearance, you’re not going to buy a gaming laptop only for its internals, and this one doesn’t disappoint either.

We have the same 8th generation i5-8300H CPU and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM as in the HP Pavilion laptop stated above, so that’s what powers it. In addition to the 256GB SSD, the laptop is also available with an Intel Optane module and a 1TB HDD combo.

The GPU is the same GTX 1050 Ti as before, so everything we said about it applies here as well. A decent GPU for the money, it can handle a 1080p display with ease, but it will struggle to handle the influx of high-end AAA titles.

In the end, this MSI laptop is just somewhat better than the HP Pavilion in terms of price and performance; the biggest differences are in the design and the available storage.

As before, we have no major issues with the laptop, though the battery life could be better, and many agree that it can get a bit loud under heavy load – but as if that were anything new when gaming laptops are concerned.

Dell G 5 15

Although the laptop’s battery life could be improved, and many agree that it may get a little noisy when under high stress, it’s nothing new when it comes to gaming laptops.

Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (High Definition)

Powered by Intel Core i5-8300H.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics processor

Eight gigabytes of DDR4

The Pros:

  • Great for 1080p gaming
  • In general, a very good showing
  • Storage using SSD and HDD in tandem

The Cons:

  • For some people, an SSD may be too tiny.
  • A little on the heftier side.
  • Battery life isn’t the best.

About The Laptop

The next laptop on our list comes from Dell, and it’s part of their G-series of gaming computers. With a screen size of 15 inches, the Dell G 5 15 is more than adequate for most gamers.

Specifications:

Review

Similar to the MSI laptop mentioned above, the Dell G5 has a simple outer design that blends gray with dark red accents. However, the GV62 feels more aggressive in its appearance. However, it lacks the LED-backlit keyboard of the previous model.

With an i5-8300H processor, 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, and an IPS display of 1080p, this Dell G5 is nearly comparable to MSI’s more affordable GV62 laptop.

The Dell G5’s storage and GPU are the areas where it shines. There is an adequate 1TB HDD and a smaller but typically adequate SSD. In addition to that, the GPU found here is none other than the GeForce GTX 1060, which is by far Nvidia’s greatest midrange GPU.

The fact is that this laptop will appeal to gamers looking for a powerful GPU at an affordable price. But, of course, no laptop is perfect – the laptop weighs more than six pounds (almost three kilograms), making it less portable than other gaming laptops.

Additional drawbacks include a lackluster battery life as well as a smaller-than-average solid-state drive (SSD).

Acer Predator Helios 300

It has a screen of 15.6 inches.

Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (High Definition)

The Intel Core i7-8750H is the processor of choice.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics processor

Memory: DDR4-2400 2400 MHz

The Pros:

  • Gaming at 1080p and 1440p is best served by this GPU (on an external 1440p or higher monitor)
  • The CPU is really powerful.
  • High-resolution, high-speed IPS monitor

The Cons:

  • When under stress, it becomes raucous and heated.
  • Additional storage space may be required.

About The Laptop

The Acer Predator Helios 300 is a true gaming laptop, both inside and out, and it replaces the Aspire E15 that we examined in the previous chapter. This Acer is a more serious gaming option.

Specifications:

Review

Red accents and prominent geometric shapes give the Predator Helios 300 a menacing appearance. The red LED backlight on this keyboard matches that on the MSI GV62.

The first thing you notice about this laptop is that it’s clearly a gaming machine, but the insides don’t disappoint either – which is a good thing considering the price.

On top of that, it has an 8th-generation Intel Core i7-8750H processor, which clocks in at 2.22GHz, but can reach an amazing 4.1GHz turbo speed. In terms of memory, you get 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and a lightning-fast 256 GB SSD.

In case the SSD isn’t enough for your needs, there’s also a free 2.5-inch disk slot to keep things interesting.

There is a 6GB GTX 1060, just like the Dell G5 model, in this model’s graphics card. A 144Hz IPS display is what sets the Helios apart from the slightly less expensive G5, however the G5’s display isn’t quite up to the task.

With that stated, it’s clear that the Predator Helios 300 is a gaming laptop worthy of the title, even if 256GB may be a little tight depending on how many games and programs you typically have installed.

However, there are no big drawbacks other than the fact that the laptop is fairly noisy when overheating. Despite this, the laptop’s battery life is really fairly respectable for a machine with this level of processing power, though it’s still not long enough for serious gaming.

MSI GS65 Stealth

It has a screen of 15.6 inches.

Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (High Definition)

The Intel Core i7-8750H is the processor of choice.

GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070

GeForce RTX 2070 graphics processing unit.

The Pros:

  • Specs and performance are excellent.
  • The design is simple and neutral.
  • For a gaming laptop, this one is surprisingly thin and light.

The Cons:

  • For gaming, 32 GB of RAM is unnecessary.
  • It would be nice to see more options.
  • Extremely pricey

About The Laptop

MSI has another another high-end gaming laptop on the market, although this one appears less like a gaming laptop than the GV62, which is far less expensive.

MSI GS65 Stealth THIN 8RF Core i7-8750H Ram 16GB Windows 10

Among gaming laptops, the MSI GS65 Stealth is one of the most visually appealing, with a very unobtrusive appearance that contains powerful internals.

Specifications:

Our Thoughts

The MSI GS65 has a clean black body, gorgeous golden highlights, and a thin frame, despite the fact that we typically associate gaming devices with polygons and red. All of this contributes to the impression that it is more of a high-end notebook than a gaming laptop with robust components.

It’s not a surprise that the Helios 300 has the same 8th-generation i7-8750H processor as the Helios 300, but it’s still a powerful machine, with a magnificent 144 Hz IPS display, plenty of storage, and 32 GB of RAM, which many will argue is overkill if you’re just using the laptop for gaming.

Predator Helios 300’s GTX 1060 was replaced by an RTX 2070 in this model, making it one of the most significant upgrades. Moreover, it enables real-time ray tracing, which is the signature of Nvidia’s most recent flagship line of GPUs.

At the end of the day, the GS65 isn’t just about brute force. For a laptop of this class, it has a relatively slim body, is lighter than the usual laptop, and features a high-quality per-key RGB backlight, all of which justify the laptop’s price.

It’s a shame that the GS65 doesn’t have a wider selection of models to choose from online. We’re sure there are people out there who would rather have a slower NAND SSD or 16 GB of RAM combined with an RTX 2070 than an ultra-fast 512 GB SSD and 32 GB of RAM.

Razer Blade

It has a screen of 15.6 inches.

Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (High Definition)

The Intel Core i7-8750H is the processor of choice.

Radeon RX 2080 graphics card from Nvidia

DDR4 16 GB of RAM.

The Pros:

  • A new generation of RTX graphics cards
  • Highest level of craftsmanship
  • There are a variety of options to choose from.

The Cons:

  • astronomically high

About The Laptop

Finally, we have Razer, a well-known name in the gaming industry. Razer Blade may conjure up visions of gaudy RGB lighting and pricey peripherals in the minds of casual gamers, but the punny moniker belies the fact that many gamers and professionals alike swear by this top-of-the-line laptop.

Specifications:

Our Thoughts

Like the MSI GS65 Stealth, the Razer Blade isn’t particularly aggressive in terms of its design. The rear of the laptop features the Razer emblem, but the aluminum unibody makes it feel more like a MacBook than a powerful gaming computer..

Once again, we’re looking at a fantastic Intel i7-8750H, 512GB SSD, 16GB of RAM, an HD 1080p 1080p display and an RTX 2080 GPU, all housed in this very lightweight aluminum case.

Also available are laptops with an RTX 2070 or 2060 GPU and SSDs of up to 128GB, and even one that can show 60 frames per second at 2160p. As a result, all three models feature the same aluminum construction and responsive keyboard with Chroma RGB illumination.

In spite of the fact that Razer Blades come in a variety of pricing ranges, even the cheapest models are prohibitively expensive (which is understandable given the company’s stellar reputation). With that said, if you’re ready and able to spend the money, Razer’s laptops are a great option.

Razer Blade 15

SPECIFICATIONS

CPU: 12th Gen Intel Core i7 and Core i9

Core i7 and i9 models from Intel’s newest generation

Up to 32GB of RAM

HDTV: 1080p @ 360 Hz, 1440p @ 240 Hz, or 4K @ 144 Hz on a screen

Storage: Solid-state drives (SSDs) of up to 1TB

Battery: 80 Wh

9.25 x 13.98 x 0.78 inches in size

One of the world’s best gaming laptops, the Razer Blade 15, has been updated again again. Nvidia’s RTX 30-series GPU with an Intel 12th Gen Core i9 CPU may be housed in the same beautiful CNC-milled aluminum chassis as its predecessor.

The Razer Blade 15 Advanced with a 10th Gen Intel processor and an RTX 3080 (95W) GPU has been tested by us. Even if we were already in love, we’re eagerly awaiting the Intel Alder Lake models with the RTX 3080 Ti inside.

These newer models, as you can see, support up to 16GB of RTX 3080 Ti, which is a tremendous amount of processing power for such a small chassis. Because of its compact size, you’ll experience some throttling, but you’ll still be able to enjoy this machine’s impressive performance.

There are so many options when it comes to Razer’s Blade 15 configurations. Nearly every budget and taste is catered to with the RTX 3060 and RTX 3080 Ti Advanced, both of which include a 4K 144Hz display. It’s one of the most visually stunning and technologically impressive gaming laptops you’ll find.

No matter what configuration you choose, the Razer Blade 15 is our selection for the best gaming laptop on the market right now, even if the now-classic look comes at a price.

Up to 32GB of RAM

16-inch 165Hz 2560×1600 display

Storage: M.2 SSD up to 2 TB

Battery: 86Wh

Inches in length: 14.01 x 10.4 x 1.1 inches.

If you’re looking for a high-end gaming laptop, go no further than the Legion Pro 5. With the Ryzen 7 5800H and the RTX 3070, you get a laptop that can play recent games with ease, but can also go on more challenging adventures..

One of the best features of this laptop is the QHD 16:10 165Hz screen, which is perfect for gaming and everyday Windows use. Even if you’re playing games or watching movies, you won’t be disappointed because the screen has a maximum brightness of 500nits.

When it comes to gaming, the Legion Pro 5 is also a beast, thanks to the high-powered RTX 3070 (with a max delivery of 140W, it is quicker than some 3080s). Most games will run perfectly at their native 2560 x 1600 resolution with the highest possible settings, and you won’t miss a beat. The fact that you can use DLSS and get some ray tracing enhancements for the price makes this a great deal.

MSI GS66 Stealth

SPECIFICATIONS

CPU: Core i9 10980HK and above is supported.

Up to Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics card

RAM: DDR4-3200 (up to 32 GB)

240Hz or 300Hz or 15.6-inch 1080p screen

Storage: M.2 SSDs with capacities up to 2TB are available.

Battery: 99.9Wh

9.65 x 14.17 x 0.71 inches are the product’s overall measurements.

MSI’s GS66, a sleek, powerful, and smooth machine, is one of the best out there. However, Nvidia Ampere’s strength isn’t without a price. To fit an RTX 3080 as powerful as this into an 18mm-thin chassis, MSI had to be frugal with its power consumption.

Only the 95W variant, found in the Gigabyte Aorus 15G XC, beats out the top-end GPU in terms of raw performance. Nonetheless, it’s a jaw-droppingly potent piece of mobile graphics technology.

It can be a tad noisy, but the Nvidia Max-Q 3.0 features are there to save the day. This adds Whisper Mode 2.0, which reduces the volume of gameplay to the point where it is scarcely heard.

In terms of gaming, the GS66’s 240Hz 1440p display is a fantastic fit for the system’s potent GPU. The MSI GS66 Stealth is a truly thin gaming laptop, even if you have to make some concessions compared to a workstation with an RTX 3080.

Acer Predator Helios 300

SPECIFICATIONS

Processor: Intel Core i7 11800H or better

Up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card

RAM: DDR4-3200 (up to 32 GB)

A 15.6-inch IPS 1080p @ 240 Hz display is available.

The following storage device is available: a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD.

Battery: 58Wh

These are the dimensions: 10.01 by 14.23 by 0.09″

During the GTX 10-series era, we adored Acer’s Predator Helios 300, and the latest iteration of Helios still manages to outperform other $1,500 laptops. It may not be the best gaming laptop on the market, but it is one of the most cost-effective options on the market right now. The RTX 3060 GPU and a sleeker design come standard with the latest Helios model, which costs the same as the previous one.

The new and improved Helios 300 has a 144Hz screen and smaller bezels, putting it more in line with sleek thin-and-lights than its more bulky brethren of the previous generation. Even though the laptop includes two SSDs and an HDD, increasing storage is as simple as grabbing a screwdriver. The only significant negative is the little SSD.

Asus ROG Strix Scar 17

The best big-screen gaming laptop

SPECIFICATIONS

As opposed to its previous generation’s clunky cousins, the Helios 300’s 144Hz screen and thinner bezels make it more in line with svelte thin-and-lights. Even though the laptop includes two SSDs and an HDD, increasing storage is as simple as grabbing a screwdriver. The only significant negative is the little SSD.

More in line with the thin-and-lights than its previous generation’s bulkier brethren, the new and improved Helios 300 features a 144Hz screen and lower bezels. If you don’t mind a small SSD, you can easily upgrade your storage with a screwdriver because the laptop offers two SSD slots and an HDD slot.

RAM: DDR4-3200 (up to 32 GB)

A 17.3-inch 1080p At 360Hz or 1440p @ 165Hz display is available.

Up to 2x 1TB M.2 SSDs are supported.

Battery: 90Wh

11.1 x 15.55 x 0.92 inches in size

The best pre-built gaming PCs, hand-picked by industry experts

ROG Strix Scar 17 may not be the most practical gaming laptop on the market, but there’s something about its over-the-top features that makes it so tempting. Every aspect of it seems cranked up to 11, from the CPU overclocking, which is as monstrous as they come, to the stunningly fast 360Hz screen. Asus has gone a step further than the rest of the pack in order to take the top spot in our gaming laptop rankings.

In part because of the GeForce RTX 3080 housed within, this gaming laptop has the highest benchmark scores of any of the top gaming laptops. Powered by Nvidia’s most powerful Ampere GPU, the 115W model is capable of delivering performance smaller machines can only dream of. Nvidia’s powerful DLSS can also be used to boost frame rates, if implemented.

There is more area for the components to breathe with a 17-inch chassis compared to the competition, so you’re looking at a cool and quiet gaming slice of perfection. Asus was able to fit an optomechanical keyboard onto the Scar 17 because to the extra room, making it an excellent choice for gamers and professionals both.

Alienware M15 R5 / R6

The best gaming laptop for most

SPECIFICATIONS

I5-11400H | I7-11800H | I9-11900H CPUs

Graphics card: RTX 3050Ti RTX 3060 RTX 3070

64GB of RAM is the maximum amount of RAM available.

Disk space: up to two terabytes of solid-state drive

At Computex, we were blown away by the Alienware M15 R6’s RTX 3080 GPU performance. Even if you opt for a more budget-friendly configuration, you’ll get superior components and a machine that knows how to get the most from them.

Alienware’s M15 line, which was once its crown jewel, has been pared down with the introduction of the X15. As a result, this particular gaming laptop cannot be surpassed in terms of total value because of its substantially lower price. In terms of specs alone, the Alienware X15 may be the greatest Alienware gaming laptop, but when it comes down to price and availability, the X15 takes the crown.

Intel-based R6 and AMD-based R5 are the two models currently on the market. Because of this, you’ll be able to locate the correct specification for your library, no matter which camp you’re currently sitting in.

Even with all of the power, our testing unit became quite warm, but that’s to be expected with such a slim and stylish design and body. If you’re willing to spend the money, you can get some very formidable setups, so it’s well worth it.

While a mechanical laptop keyboard with adjustable RGB lighting, N-Key rollover, and anti-ghosting feels like a standard feature on the finest gaming laptops, it’s worth noting that this is a particularly premium feature lurking in a rather modest device. These keyboards are rarely seen in even the most powerful computers, so the extra attention to detail here is really strong.

Asus TUF Dash F15

SPECIFICATIONS

Intel’s i5-11300H, i7-11370H, and i7-11375H chips are available.

GPUs: RTX 3050, RTX 3050 Ti, RTX 3060, and RTX 3070 (in order of decreasing clock speed).

64-bit or 16-bit versions of RAM are available.

512 GB or 1 TB of storage

The Asus TUF Dash F15 is your best chance if you’re seeking to get an RTX 30-Series card for less than $1,000 / £1,000. Even in the most demanding games, we discovered that this low-cost system performed as if it belonged in a considerably higher price range. It also retains its slimline form factor that has been so popular in recent years.

Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516PR - Notebookcheck.net External Reviews

If you’re willing to spend a little more money, you can get an 11th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, a 1TB hard drive, and 32GB of RAM. To avoid spending money on high-end hardware you won’t need to run less demanding games with low-end specs and yet obtain the greatest specs in the business, but without breaking the bank.

That the more power-hungry components worked together so well in a less expensive chassis was a special highlight for us. While we had to make some concessions to more demanding games, we were able to consistently hit 60 frames per second or higher on an RTX 3070 without experiencing any overheating issues.

TUF Dash F15 will include a larger touchpad, 12th generation Alder Lake processor and redesigned cooling system when it goes on sale in 2022. However, there is no word on the price or release date just yet.

ASUS Zephyrus G14

The best 14-inch mid-range gaming laptop

SPECIFICATIONS

Processing Power (CPU): AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS or higher

Graphics: Nvidia RTX 3060 or above recommended.

Up to 32GB of RAM

NVMe SSD storage: up to 1TB

Resolution: WQHD or WQHD+ (1080p) (1440p)

For quite some time, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 was king of the small gaming laptops. With a design factor that respected your backpack and your workplace, the machine was one of the first to be effortlessly transportable. For those who don’t want to spend a fortune on a top-tier graphics card, the 2021 model offers enough power and efficiency beneath the hood to make up for its lower-than-average graphic capabilities (maximum RTX 3060 GPU).

For 2021’s G14, gamers will be able to enjoy a WQHD display operating at a maximum 144Hz refresh rate when they upgrade their Ryzen 500-series processor and Nvidia’s 3000-series GPUs to WQHD. This isn’t a high-end gaming laptop with specs to match the Alienware x-series or the Razer Blade, but for the money, and the fact that you get everything in a little 14-inch casing, there’s plenty of value here.

As is the case with many tiny laptops, this 14-inch pricing point can’t be matched by anything else on the market.

Razer Blade Pro 17

SPECIFICATIONS

Intel’s 11th generation processors are supported

Up to Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics

64GB of RAM is the maximum amount of RAM available.

Storage: up to 1 TB of solid-state drives

The Razer Blade Pro 17 is the greatest choice for gamers on the go who demand the very best from their portable gear and are searching for a desktop experience they can take with them in their luggage.. The Pro combines the most up-to-date components, including the latest Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics cards and Intel processors, with a stunning 4K touch screen or 360Hz 1080p screen, to produce an absolute beast of a gaming laptop – and one that can easily replace a creative workstation desktop PC.

Razer’s ultra-low-profile mechanical switches make it one of the greatest gaming laptop keyboards on the market, making it both comfortable and beautiful. There is a right-of-keyboard trackpad that is equally as precise and comfy as the other models’ trackpads, which is a nice tribute to desktop users.

This is the laptop for you if you want the biggest and greatest Razer gaming laptop and your budget isn’t an issue. Beautiful and extremely powerful, it could easily replace your desktop as your go-to PC for gaming and more routine tasks.

Should You Buy A Gaming Laptop?

You may believe that these laptops would perform as well as a desktop PC based on their specs, but you’d be wrong. Aside from their high price, laptop gaming computers will always fall short in terms of raw performance compared to their desktop counterparts.

Why, therefore, is there such a disparity between the cost and the quality of these products?

For two reasons:

  1. A laptop’s tiny chassis makes it challenging to fit powerful technology.
