Watching your button-mashing turn into a series of powerful attacks on the screen is the best experience in video games.

Dante’s Ebony and Ivory pistols or Kratos’ Blades of Chaos are two of the most iconic weapons in hack and slash games, and it’s easy to see why.
Bạn đang xem: Best Hack and Slash Games. The Ultimate List Update 11/2024
We’ve compiled a list of the finest hack and slash games to play in 2022 across all major platforms, and we’re sharing it with you here.
It would be remiss of me not to include a handful of classics, despite the fact that the focus of my list is on more current releases. Keep checking back, as we’ll be adding more to this list in the near future.
Consider checking out our other handpicked lists while you’re here:
Bloodrayne
A program created by Terminal Reality
Bloodrayne was a “must-play” for Gamecube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox gamers, despite the game’s hypersexualized protagonist. A technological catastrophe, yes, but Terminal Reality’s brutal action-adventure inspired a (bad) film, many sequels, an ongoing comic book and countless filthy fantasies for fans to indulge in. That tells us something about Bloodrayne’s long-term viability as a villain.
Players assume the role of the titular vampire and are transported to the 1930s, just when the Nazis were gaining power. Bloodrayne rips through the Germans with a pair of her distinctive swords and her bloodlust. A mindless hack and slash title that also happens to be one of the best vampire games, Bloodrayne is violent, silly, and over-the-top.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
Developer: LucasArts
What can you do to please Star Wars devotees? They’ll learn the Dark and Light sides of the Force, how to use lightsabers, and the history of the Galactic Civil War before they’re even introduced to Darth Vader.
The sequel to The Force Unleashed makes up for some of its predecessor’s flaws, focusing on fast-paced lightsaber action. It’s six months after The Force Unleashed when players take control of Starkiller, a renegade clone. Chewbacca and Han Solo from the Star Wars films make an appearance in this alternate version of movie mythology.
The most enjoyable part of the game is killing Stormtroopers and mastering your Force powers, like as Force lightning and Force push.
Dante’s Inferno
Visceral Games is the company behind this title.
Dante, a Templar knight who has been stabbed in the back and is now subjected to the horrors of hell, must make his way through its nine levels. Dante’s terrible journey to salvation is a visual treat for those who are fortunate enough to accompany him. Scythe of Death in hand, they face off against an army of creatures that are as much joy to behold as they are to be mutilated.
As Dante descends further into hell, he encounters legendary figures such as Lust, Cerberus, the River Styx, Cleopatra, and many more. Dante’s Inferno features some of the most heinous monsters and bosses ever to grace the PS3, Xbox 360, and PSP.
Visceral Games has shut down, therefore this hellish epic hack and slash game will never get a sequel.
Darksiders Genesis
Airship Syndicate is the game’s creator.
The release of Darksiders III was quite chilly, and it fell short of the high standards set by its predecessors. For the sake of the series, Airship Syndicate (Battle Chasers: Nightwar) opted for Genesis, a top-down hack’n’slash instead of another 3rd-person hack ‘n’slash RPG. In the end, it was the wisest course of action.
After the Horsemen attacked Eden’s Nephilim, players can switch between War and Strife on the fly in this all-new tale. The two set forth across terrible landscapes and alien settings to begin the events of the first Darksiders games.
Playing War and Strife is a great way to spice things up and get a different perspective on battles.
Heavenly Sword
Ninja Theory is the developer.
It’s been said that it’s too similar to God of War, although that’s not entirely accurate. In its own way, Heavenly Sword is an excellent hack ‘n’ slash game that borrows a few ideas from another popular hack ‘n’ slash. With its increased chaos and rapidity, it creates for some truly thrilling battle scenes. Ninja Theory seemed to have designed this PS3 exclusive with a clear understanding of what it was doing.
While Heavenly Sword was all that we got from it other than a short-lived animated series and movie, it was a solid game for the PlayStation 3. When it came to her arsenal of weaponry, Nariko was an impressive character. The Ghost of Sparda may be the first to possess flowing tresses of luscious red hair, but Nariko does not.
Hades
Supergiant Games is the company behind the game.
This is a fantastic game that will take gamers on an epic journey through hell itself. With the help of the Olympian Gods, players can unleash destructive powers on the Prince of the Underworld in this Supergiant Games hack ‘n slash.
At first glance, Hades appears to be equally lovely and enthralling. To keep players motivated, the game incorporates elements from both classical mythology and a whole new storyline. You’ll recognize many of the figures who are ready to assist or hinder the Prince.
Anyone who has played Bastion or Transistor, two of Supergiant’s previous titles, knows precisely what to expect. Because this horrible rogue-like hack/slash/dungeon crawler is sure to excite them.
Darksiders: Warmastered Edition
Vigil Games/KAIKO is the developer.
What person wouldn’t want to play War in a world-ending scenario? It’s up to players to take on armies of demons and angels after War is betrayed and duped into making Armageddon happen before it should have. One day, War finds himself in a position of power, tasked with keeping the balance between the forces of Heaven and Hell.
However, even in the remastered version of Darksiders the sheer magnificence of slaying your opponents with a broad array of weapons and magical powers is still undeniable. To keep the focus on the action, the story could have easily been a throwaway, but Troy Baker, Mark Hamill, and Liam O’Brien star in an intriguing cast.
The familiarity of Earth rapidly dissipates into a hellscape that isn’t actually awful to explore. Watching people strive to avoid their impending death is also a lot of fun, because neither Heaven nor Hell show any mercy to anyone.
Torchlight II
Runic Games is the developer.
The game is not a Diablo clone before you even begin to think about it. Even though it shares Blizzard’s trademark isometric graphics and top-down gameplay, Torchlight II stands on its own. Engineers, Outlanders, Bersers, and Embermages journey beyond the mining town of Torchlight to stop the corrupted Archmage from wreaking havoc on the world.
Torchlight has an expansive world to explore, and you’ll have your pet at your side to help you do so. It’s a fast-paced hack and slash title that allows gamers to customize their experience. With a large amount of loot dropped by adversaries and found through careful examination of an area, the game allows for a wide range of class customization.
In addition to its stunning visuals, the game includes a co-op mode that can accommodate six people.
Titan Quest
Iron Lore Entertainment is the developer.
Titan Quest’s efforts to bring to life some of the most well-known monsters from ancient Greece and Egypt will appeal to mythology buffs (which is to say, just about everyone). Titan Quest is a top-down, hack ‘n’ slash, and role-playing video game that stands on its own, even if you think you’ve seen this type of gameplay elsewhere.
To aid the Olympian Gods in a battle for survival, travel across Ancient Greece and Egypt, traversing the Silk Road in Asia. Keep Olympus from succumbing to the Titans, not a vengeful Spartan warrior. A horde of monsters, including the multi-headed hydra, mummies, centaurs, Cyclops, skeletons, and trolls, stands in your way.
Battle across vivid and detailed landscapes while wielding clubs, swords, axes and a range of skills and powers in this graphically breathtaking adventure that captures the settings of the distant and ancient lands.
Golden Axe
Developer: Sega
Even when discussing the best hack & slash games, it’s tough to avoid bringing up one of the originals. Golden Axe’s side-scrolling, co-op multiplayer may be rough around the edges by today’s standards, but it captures the essence of early hack and slash games.
As Gilius Thunderhead the dwarf, Ax Battler the barbarian, or Tyris Flare the Amazon, players face off against Death Adder while armed with a battle axe, broadsword, or longsword.
Golden Axe has a lot of great names, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a lot of decent gameplay. The experience is enhanced even further by the addition of a second player. You can’t beat the feeling of swiping through hordes of opponents with your best pal nearby.
Path of Exile
Grinding Gear Games is the developer.
Path of Exile is a great example of why the top-down perspective is so popular in hack ‘n slash games. In building a unique game, Grinding Gear Games has done an exceptional job. Aside from being an excellent hack ‘n’ slash game, Path of Exile also has one of the most stunning top-down graphics in the genre. Beautiful character models and intricate shadows are made possible by the stunning lighting design.
A free-to-play game like Path of Exile becomes increasingly difficult to maintain as you progress through it. Despite the fact that there are just a handful of flaws, the game’s universe is richly detailed and a lot of fun to explore.
Each of the game’s six classes – Duelist, Marauder, Ranger, Shadow, Templar or Witch – has its own unique set of weapons and abilities that must be mastered in order to succeed in the game’s vast online environment. Despite the fact that this is an online game, you aren’t trapped into a group and can explore the perilous environment on your own.
Dynasty Warriors 8
Omega Force is the developer.
In terms of hack-and-slash gameplay, the Dynasty Warriors series has set the bar exceptionally high from the get-go. This is exactly what you’d expect from the genre. Slash and dice your way through waves of opponents as a warrior.
Dynasty Warriors 8 is one of the best games in the series, and the screen is littered with enemies just ready to be slaughtered. As a result, the animations and dynamic motion are stunning.
While remaining faithful to the rest of the series, Dynasty Warriors 8 adds just enough to the overall experience to make it stand out. Many of the game’s 83 playable characters are unlocked as you go, and you must fend off hordes of on-screen foes while maintaining a reasonable frame rate.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Developer: PlatinumGames
Solid Snake and stealth have long been associated with the Metal Gear series. Long-time series fans were less than delighted when Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was revealed, featuring action-packed gameplay and Ninja Raiden as the central character. What’s more, it’s a fantastic game.
Sword-based melee combat is a dramatic contrast to Snake’s stealth-based tactics in Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear games. It’s challenging – and even irritating at times – but once you’ve figured out how to cut through the clutter, it’s a rewarding experience.
Considering how different and more nuanced Raiden is in Sons of Liberty, it’s easy to forget how despised he was.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
the Monolith Productions development team
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’s hack-and-slash RPG gameplay may make it the most enjoyable of the Lord of the Rings games to yet. Players assume the role of Gondor’s new commander, Talion, who carries a sword, a dagger, and a bow and arrow to take out an orc army.
As a player, you can use Shadow of Mordor’s Nemesis System to target specific Uruks that are striving to be Suron’s Captains. In fight, there is nothing more fulfilling than slicing the skull off a specific Uruk. Dodging and striking in a dance-like manner will cause numerous heads to roll.

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
Authorized Distributor of Grasshopper Manufacture Products
We were familiar with Grasshopper Manufacture from their work on Killer7 and the original No More Heroes, so we were excited to see what they had in store for us this time around. One of No More Heroes 2’s greatest achievements is that it surpasses its predecessor’s expectations in almost every way possible.
Beam katanas replace swords in this hack and slash game, which was a new genre for the Nintendo Wii at the time of its release. Second Travis Touchdown adventure had the potential to be a dud, but it ended up being a blast that improved on the combat and mechanics from the original No More Heroes game.
Not to mention that Travis has beam blades in both hands, which obviously elevates the situation.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Ubisoft Montreal is the game’s developer.
The original Prince of Persia was a far cry from the aesthetically spectacular 3D journey that Ubisoft Montreal ended up providing gamers in 2003 with. When it comes to the platforming and hack and slash elements of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, it’s a winning combination. It is possible for players to vault off of walls with the prince, giving for some flair in combat.
Much to enjoy about the game is found in its exploration and combat features that have been around for a long time. It takes a little amount of technique, and just randomly pressing buttons will get you killed, but the prince uses his sword quite a bit.
You can rewind time to solve puzzles and correct mistakes in combat in the game’s main selling feature, time manipulation.
Onimusha: Warlords
Developer: Capcom
Following Resident Evil, Capcom went on to Onimusha: Warlords, a fast-paced survival horror game that incorporates themes from the franchise.
When it comes to fighting demons in Feudal Japan, Onimusha’s sword-wielding protagonist, Samanosuke Akechi, is a little more hasty in his quest.
In yet another Capcom triumph, Akechi slays hordes of foes with a bevy of upgradeable swords and ranged weaponry. There’s nothing quite like a samurai swinging his katana in the style of the time period. Warlords spawned a number of successors, although none of them completely caught the original’s core.
Dead Cells
Motion Twin is the developer.
In Motion Twin’s Dead Cells, the ability to hack and slash your way through hordes of foes is one of many features to enjoy. Dead Cells takes players through a 13-level interconnected universe that combines elements of a modern Roguelite and a classic Metroidvania.
Dead Cells is a game where no one is safe, so practice your hacking and slashing skills accordingly. Use all of the weapons in the environment, and you might might encounter the game’s most tough bosses. Players that are easily annoyed in Dead Cells will plead for mercy. Progression is acquired in Dead Cells.
It’s possible to enjoy an excellent hack-and-slash game if you put in the effort and succeed.
Bayonetta 2
Developer: PlatinumGames
It’s no surprise that Bayonetta 2 was developed by the same team that made Metal Gear a fast-paced hack and slash game.
This time around, PlatinumGames has once again delivered a stunning experience with some of the oddest combat you’ve ever encountered. Bayonetta, the shapeshifting witch, uses her sidearms, a robust pair of heels, and her hair to fight off swarms of demons. Her hair, of course. Bayonetta, armed with magic and her long, flowing hair, unleashes a barrage of deadly weapons and towering figures on anyone or anything who stands in her way.
As a Devil May Cry clone, Bayonetta 2 may appear to some to be a poor imitation, yet it is in many respects a superior game. For the most part, it’s a joy to watch and the fights are nothing short of exciting.
NieR: Automata
Developer: PlatinumGames
PlatinumGames appears to have figured out how to make hack & slash games that are both lucrative and pleasant. There are several NieR games, but Automata is easily the greatest and most approachable to those who have never heard of the series.
Players take on the roles of YoRHa No. 2 Model B (2B) and No. 9S, and engage in fast-paced, often chaotic battle with a variety of swords, spears, and bracers. Playing in a 3D open environment provides players the opportunity to take in the game’s stunning visuals. That is, if they aren’t too busy wreaking havoc on their mechanical foes.
Open-world gameplay in Automata provides players with a wealth of options, making for an engaging and never-ending adventure.
Try Automata, the latest installment in the Nier series. You won’t be able to put it down. “It’s a challenge, but it’s not so difficult that you won’t give it another go.”
Ninja Gaiden Black
Team Ninja is in charge of programming.
NES Ninja Gaiden has come a long way from its inception. The degree of difficulty, on the other hand, has remained constant. Ninja Gaiden Black punishes players who assume they can sail through the game without considering strategy in the same way the original from the 1990s was painfully hard.
Ninja Gaiden Black is a great game, even if it is a bit tedious to play, especially in the boss bouts. Although it’s not easy, it’s not difficult just for the purpose of it. If you want the most out of the game’s great mechanics, take your time and plan out each battle.
Those who put in the time and effort to perfect Ryu Hayabusa’s talents and swordplay will be rewarded with an entertaining hack and slash game.
Devil May Cry
Developer: Capcom
Even though the series as a whole never took itself too seriously, the first game in the series struck the appropriate balance between Dante’s no-nonsense demeanor and a gothic setting for the series’ tone. It’s hard not to prefer the original to its three sequels because of the gameplay and plot, both of which are still a delight to be immersed in today. That’s not something we discuss.
In spite of the game’s appearance, even the most basic enemies demand careful attention to their attack animations and patterns, even if you just aimlessly hit the “attack” button. Players should expect increasingly challenging hack and slash action as the game progresses.
At first it seemed like a no-brainer, but being as how Dante doesn’t impersonate Michael Jackson in the original, it was a no-brainer.
Diablo
Blizzard North is the developer.
As unpleasant as putting a Soulstone into your forehead, choosing between Diablo and Diablo II is. If you’re a fan of the Blizzard’s hack-and-slash dungeon crawler series, you’ll have to pay homage to its predecessors, no matter what.
Although Diablo II and Diablo III may have had more weapons and opponents, and Diablo III may have been a terrific multiplayer experience, the original point-and-click adventure is still the best overall.
The first time you square up against The Butcher, the Skeleton King, and the Lord of Terror, there is no comparison. As compared to its sequels, Diablo had a more tighter plot and more dramatic lighting and sound effects.
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance
Snowblind Studios is the developer.
Is it possible to make a top-down hack and slash game that isn’t seen as a “Diablo clone?” It’s possible that Snowblind Studios has received some negative feedback because of the game’s Diablo-like aesthetic, but it’s merely superficial criticism that ignores so much of Dark Alliance’s positive attributes.
Diablo clone or not, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is far more than just that. If you’re a beginner, you’ll appreciate the game’s deeper gameplay and flashier presentation. There are some parallels, such as the top-down view of a 3D world and encountering a variety of opponents and loot along the way, but that’s about it.
The Dark Alliance Engine, which is well named, is responsible for the fluid character animations, detailed levels, and stunning lighting effects in this game.
God of War III
Santa Monica Studio (SMC) is the developer
Kratos’ fury guided him through two critically praised games by the time God of War III was released. SCE Santa Monica Studio knows exactly what tweaks to make to keep gamers hooked in the adventures of the frantic Spartan in the third installment of the franchise.
Everything in God of War III was given a little polish, so it played like its predecessor, but better. In fact, the tale is kept fresh by including the Titans, who also happen to be some of the series’ strongest set pieces, despite the series’ continued concentration on the hostile relationship between Kratos and Zeus.
In God of War III, you’ll be able to wreak havoc on your enemies like you did in the previous games. The new magic system and tighter controls add to the fun of taking on a diverse cast of rogues’ gallery creatures and historical individuals from ancient Greece.
For SCE, God of War III provides a satisfying conclusion to the tale, but it also serves as a springboard for the PS4 version of the game. In truth, the most recent entry may have claimed this rank if it had maintained the series’ fast-paced action.
Nioh 2
Team Ninja is the company behind this project.
PlayStation 4
Team Ninja’s samurai RPG Nioh received a sequel this year. Playstation exclusives have long been considered some of the best of their generation.
Fighting in Nioh 2 is more focused on the “difficult but fair” style of combat from the original game, while removing the protagonist in favor of allowing players to create their own characters.
Hide, a half-spirit, half-samurai being, is the protagonist of Nioh 2, a prequel to the events of the previous game that takes place in Japan’s Sengoku Era in the late 1500s. Even more traditional Japanese weaponry, such as kusarigama and dual katanas, are available this time around.
Although they all have their own unique idiosyncrasies, they all have the ability to rip into foes, both human and non-human alike. Up to three players can fight side by side in an online co-op mode as they try to take down yokai bosses in Nioh 2’s huge story campaign.
Skul: The Hero Slayer
SouthPAW Games is the developer.
The PC is the platform of choice.
Rogue-like platformer games in 2D are becoming increasingly tough to keep track of. While Hollow Knight and Skul: The Hero Slayer share many similarities in terms of atmosphere, we would recommend Skul: The Hero Slayer instead.
Skul’s main selling point is the flexibility it offers players in terms of customizing their gameplay by swapping out the skulls on their hero’s head. Skul is a skeleton, as implied by his name and the fact that he is made of bone. He can wear and switch between many skulls while he’s carrying weapons.
Skulls that impact your damage, attack range, and speed can be unlocked as you move through the game. In addition, new special powers can be unlocked as you continue.
With this concept, the game’s fighting becomes much more varied, since you can use any combination of skulls you’ve collected to develop a style of play that you love.
Devil May Cry 5
Game publisher: Capcom.
Xem thêm : Best GTX 1080 Ti Graphics Cards – Comprehensive Review Update 11/2024
PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC are all supported.
Devil May Cry 5 takes place five years after the events of DMC 4, and is told from the viewpoints of three different protagonists. Dante, the series’ stalwart protagonist, is joined by Nero, a returning demon hunter, and V, a customer of Dante’s with the capacity to summon familiars through the use of magic.
Urizen, the demon king, is on a crusade to conquer the mortal world before he does so. The return of Dante and Nero’s advanced fighting methods will be welcomed by veteran players, while newcomer V offers an interesting alternative approach to combat.
You may expect to be rated on your hack and slash abilities via a style meter that fills the longer you keep your combination going in this version of Devil May Cry Considering the game’s extensive array of demon-killing blades, firearms, and gadgets is as ludicrous and over-the-top as the characters who wield them, this shouldn’t be too difficult to accomplish.
Nier: Automata
PlatinumGames is the developer.
Xem thêm : Best GTX 1080 Ti Graphics Cards – Comprehensive Review Update 11/2024
PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC are all supported.
A curiously fantastic action RPG with lightning-fast gameplay and that distinctive PlatinumGames touch that fans have grown to anticipate is Nier: Automata.
In Automata, you play as a battle android named 2B, along with her friend 9S, who are both part of the Drakengard series. In the midst of a rapidly escalating proxy war between human-made androids and alien machines, the two set out on a series of military missions.
With numerous playthroughs, it is impossible to completely appreciate the story in this game without spoiling anything. From time to time, you’ll experience events from the perspective of various individuals, as well as gaming features that go beyond the typical hack and slash.
Despite its peculiarity, it’s a worthwhile investment for those who have gotten tired of standard action RPGs and are looking for a change of pace.
Hades
At Supergiant Games, the developer
The PC is the platform of choice.
Supergiant Games has a reputation for creating memorable games with engrossing gameplay, enticing characters, and well-crafted environments. With Hades, the studio’s next rogue-lite hack & slash title, they’ve joined the ranks of the likes of Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre.
Zagreus, the Prince of Darkness, is at the heart of the game’s stellar ratings, thanks to an all-star cast of fully-voiced characters inspired by Greek mythology.
It’s an action-adventure in which the player takes control of Zagreus, the son of Zeus and Hades, in an attempt to free himself from Hades’ grasp. A wide array of evil opponents and mythological deities will be on hand to give you extraordinary powers as you progress through the game.
A surprising degree of customization is available in the game’s playstyle options, including the ability to switch between different builds and carry over any upgrades you’ve acquired from one run to the next.
Mordhau
Triternion is the developer.
The PC is the platform of choice.
With up to 64 participants in a battle, Mordhau is a medieval hack and slash combat game.
When it comes to Mordhau’s freeform melee and ranged combat, you have complete control over your character’s mobility during combat. In this way, you will be able to experiment with different fighting strategies while keeping your opponents guessing.
The game offers a wide range of customisation choices when it comes to personalizing weapons and armor to your specifications. Each area of your character’s body can be protected with mild, medium, and heavy levels of protection.
One- and two-handed melee weapons, such as the broadsword, can also be unlocked, as well as an armory of long-range alternatives including bows and throwing knives.
You won’t get the most accurate picture of medieval battle in hack and slash games, which are designed to make you feel like a mighty warrior.
Diablo III
Blizzard Entertainment is the developer.
Platforms include PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and a personal computer.
It would be a grave error not to include Diablo III on this list, given its importance to hack-and-slash and dungeon crawler genres.
After selecting one of seven character types, the player embarks on a journey to confront Diablo, the game’s titular Lord of Terror. You’ll face and battle hordes of opponents and monsters along the road, and your strength will grow as a result.
A lot of people are already aware with the series’ famous gameplay loop: explore randomly generated levels, slay hordes of monsters, and hope your fingers bleed for god-tier prize drops.
Diablo III has received a slew of updates and expansions throughout the years, including Rise of the Necromancer and Reaper of Souls, all of which are included in various editions of the game.
Grim Dawn
Constructor/Developer: Crate
Xbox One and PC are supported.
Grim Dawn, released in 2016, rounds off the year’s end. This action RPG has a lot in common with Diablo in terms of gameplay design and visual style.
This dark fantasy game puts you in the role of a member of a resistance caught between two opposing supernatural forces set in the Victorian era environment. During your adventure, you’ll be working with other rebels to rescue survivors and try to rebuild society.
Grim Dawn is unique in two ways, which is why we decided to include it in this roundup.
With its dual-class structure, you may combine the skills of six different archetypes to create a unique playstyle. For one thing, the mission system in Grim Dawn is more immersive, with variable outcomes depending on how you engage with different factions.
No More Heroes & No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle – 82
- PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One
The first two games in the No More Heroes series were released on the Nintendo Switch and PC in anticipation of the release of No More Heroes 3 on the platform. In the No More Heroes series, Travis Touchdown, an otaku who sets out to become the world’s most lethal assassin, is the protagonist.
When Travis is fighting nameless goons on his way to a boss fight, the games’ combat is showy yet simple. As a result, the hack and slash gameplay works effectively when Travis goes up against one of the game’s identified enemies.
Ghost Of Tsushima – 83
- PlayStation 4; Director’s Cut: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4
It was a fitting send-off for the PS4 with Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, a riveting action game set at a period of Japanese history that was rarely explored before. If you choose to play the role of Jin, you’ll be able to sneak up on or immediately confront the Mongol Fleet as it spreads out across a vast and frequently stunning landscape. The plot is passable, if not spectacular.
Assaulting hordes of enemies in a crowded area is a particularly rewarding experience. Jin has a wide range of options when it comes to battle in Ghost of Tsushima, allowing him to tailor the experience to his own preferences. While Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut does not have a Metacritic score, it should be considered superior to the original game in terms of value.
Kingdom Hearts 3 – 83
- Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC
Square Enix has finally launched Kingdom Hearts 3 after an excruciatingly lengthy wait (at least for a numbered entry). Toy Story’s adorable figures and Elsa from Frozen are among the characters Sora, Goofy and Donald meet on their journey across Disney realms. Most of Kingdom Hearts 3’s story takes a back seat to the world’s individual stories, which should appeal to Disney fans of all ages.
Kingdom Hearts 3 has an entertaining hack-and-slash fighting system, even if it doesn’t evolve much throughout the campaign. The Keyblade bearer may feel a bit outmatched by Sora’s arsenal of tools and mechanics, but the action is visually stunning.
Persona 5 Strikers – 83
- Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch, as well as PC
Persona 5 Strikers almost makes too much sense coming from Atlus and Omega Force, who have never been afraid to try new things with spin-off games. Although it borrows heavily from turn-based JRPGs, Persona 6 follows in the footsteps of Persona 5, which was one of the finest games on the PS4 at the time of its release.
Persona 5 Strikers, in contrast to Dynasty Warriors and even Hyrule Warriors, is a far more narratively focused game. Jails, the new twist on Palaces introduced in P5, are a great addition to the story, and Joker has a lot of Persona to work with. The fighting is simple but attractive, and each Phantom Thief plays a unique role.
Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor – 84
- Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One
One of the first Fantasy Action hack and slash games of this generation was released in 2014. Because it borrows heavily from other video games, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is a really original experience. It’s influenced by games like Assassin’s Creed, Batman Arkham Asylum, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Combo-based gameplay and a strong focus on counter-attacks and executions are both included in this game. The Nemesis System in Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor is legendary, and the game itself is well worth playing only for the pure amusement it provides.
DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition – 83 – 86
- PS4, Xbox One, and PC
Dante’s new look in DmC: Devil May Cry was met with skepticism by many gamers. The game was still a fun time waster, despite the limitations. This game’s remastered version, dubbed DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition, was released in 2015.
It’s the same game, but with improved graphics, a higher frame rate, a higher resolution, and other bonuses. The PS4 and Xbox One Definitive Edition of this classic title is a must-have for fans of the genre.
Astral Chain – 87
- This is a Nintendo Switch-based device.
PlatinumGames’ Astral Chain made its Nintendo Switch premiere in 2019 and was developed exclusively for the system. The story takes place in a bleak Earth future, when the police must safeguard the populace from interdimensional creatures. With their “chaining” abilities, two characters have a distinct advantage in combat.
The game has a cyberpunk feel to it, and the hack and slash gameplay is of the highest caliber. Music, aesthetics, gameplay mechanics, and plot are all praised by fans of the Astral Chain. It has a Metascore of 87, and the studio has lately hinted at a follow-up.
Torchlight 2 – 88
- Windows, Linux, UNIX and OS X are all supported platforms.
The Torchlight series places the player at the center of a vast narrative, much like Diablo did. There are ancient gods and alchemists in this Metascore 88 adventure.
Despite the lack of classic hack and slash features, the gameplay is simple and enjoyable. There are also a wide variety of classes, abilities, and weapon/armor builds to choose from.
Bastion – 89
