Everwild appears to be mysterious. Rare has released trailers showcasing a beautiful, vibrant world without providing any information about the gameplay or level of interactivity that players can expect.
Despite the lack of details, I’m still hoping that Everwild will allow us to live out our fantasies of being a druidic, nature-loving nomad who explores vast forests full of exotic animals. Information on the game’s gameplay, setting, anticipated release date, and more can be found below.

What is Everwild?
Rare, a British video game developer now owned by Microsoft, is hard at work on its next title, Everwild. Founded in 1985 by the Stamper brothers, the studio is responsible for groundbreaking titles such as GoldenEye, Donkey Kong Country, Banjo Kazooie, and Conker’s Bad Fur Day. Since Microsoft’s 2002 purchase, Rare has focused on making exclusive Xbox games like the Kinect Sports series, Viva Piata, and most recently Sea of Thieves.
Rare is a studio that defies categorization due to its penchant for genre-hopping and experimentation, but its most recent original intellectual property, Everwild, bears visual similarities to Rare’s other hit, Sea of Thieves. We can make an educated guess based on the trailers and marketing copy that it is a similar style of game — an emergent MMO — set in a fantasy universe, but we won’t know for sure until we hear more about it, hopefully at this year’s E3, in whatever form that may take. Louise O’Connor, a seasoned member of the team who has contributed to titles such as Fable Legends and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, is in charge of the game’s development.
Everwild release date
Everwild’s official release date on Xbox has not yet been announced. There is no reason to expect Everwild to be released any time soon, especially in light of the fact that Rare’s previous property, Sea of Thieves, also made random appearances between its announcement in 2015 and its release in 2018.
Simon Woodroffe, creative director at Everwild, left the company in late 2020. We don’t know if this has delayed production, but it certainly casts doubt on when we might see it released.
Microsoft announced in January (opens in new tab) all of the exclusive Xbox games coming to the Xbox Series X|S console in 2021. The lack of any mention of Everwild in this post strongly suggests that its cancellation for this year is confirmed.
Possible reasons for Simon Woodroffe’s departure from Everwild include Rare’s current search for Senior Designers to join the team. The fact that they are actively seeking applicants for this position suggests there is still room for expansion in the game. This seems to be conclusive evidence that the game will not be released in 2021.
In a VGC Off The Record podcast, Chris Dring of Gamesindustry.biz said that the release date for Everwild is “so far away.” By the time it launches, he says, there may even be a new Xbox model (a mid-tier upgrade).
Due to LinkedIn posts from a few Rare employees, a Twitter user recently learned that Everwild has been in pre-production since 2016. When trying to estimate how much longer it will be until the game is released, this is not the best metric to use.
According to Video Games Chronicle, the entire game of Everwild has been remade. The development team has moved the release date to 2024, so we won’t be able to play it for a long time.
Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty said in an interview with Kinda Funny that the Rare team is “just trying to make sure that they’ve got something special.” We’ve given you a taste of a world, and you’ve seen the team’s artistic direction, but we still want to get it right. ”
Gary Napper, lead designer on Alien Isolation, has joined Rare to work on Everwild in the role of design director.

In an episode of the XboxEra podcast, Jeff Grubb offered some commentary, calling Everwild “a real mess.” “The people working on that game don’t really know what’s going on with that game, he claims further. Fans have been worried about this since both trailers for the game were animated and gave no insight into the gameplay or mechanics of the game. We can only hope that these problems are fixed and the game finally comes together.
Everwild isn’t the only company with development problems; Perfect Dark has lost half its staff in the past year. Things don’t look great, but maybe in the next few years we’ll see some progress in these games.
On June 12 at 10am PT / 1pm EST / 6pm BST, Microsoft will host a showcase featuring Xbox and Bethesda. Even though it’s not likely that Everwild will show up, you should watch the show anyway. Xbox is holding a longer showcase on June 14 at 10am PT / 1pm EST / 6pm BST if it doesn’t make it to that show.
Everwild trailers
The game’s atmosphere has been hinted at in two cinematic trailers. In 2019, a trailer for Everwild was released, depicting four adventurers gathering berries, chatting with local wildlife, and avoiding traps in a lush forest.
The paintbrush quality of the world is emphasized by the softly animated foliage and the cool color palette. The game’s characters and fauna have cartoonishly simplistic designs, another indicator that it will be on the humorous side. Like Sea of Thieves, it’s likely that this will be a four-player experience that takes place on servers with a large player base.
The second trailer for Everwild provides a more comprehensive look at the game, showcasing our travelers (called Eternals) with animals by their sides as they sit around campfires, engage in druidic rituals, meditate in different locations, help animals reach their potential or overcome obstacles, and heal the wild creatures they encounter along the way. Despite the lack of actual gameplay footage, the trailer does a good job of setting the stage for what we can expect.
Everwild gameplay
In Everwild, players will most likely create their own druidic character whose mission is to safeguard the planet’s most imperiled ecosystems. Similar to how Sea of Thieves just drops you into the action without much of a larger motivator other than having fun, we don’t anticipate this to be a very goal-driven game.
This will be a crucial decision in the development of Everwild, as it will be difficult to feel like your character is at one with nature if the story is forced to include such themes. Rare should instead design ingenious gameplay mechanics that allow players to experience this well on their own.
Without much of a tutorial, I imagine Everwild will simply drop the player into the middle of this living, breathing world where they can freely interact with the environment and other players. This is, of course, pure speculation, but the similarities between the trailers’ structures and the nature of Rare’s previous game make it plausible.
I’m crossing my fingers that Rare builds Everwild with the intention of making the player feel completely at one with nature. Sea of Thieves’ cosmetic microtransactions worked because the game is about making money and spending it, but putting them in a game where you’re supposed to be a primitive, nature-loving nomad would definitely ruin the experience. When I finally do meet up with another traveler, I don’t want to be taken aback by the realization that they spent actual cash on their incredible costume. ”
Louise O’Connor, Everwild’s executive producer, appeared on an episode of Women of Xbox UK to talk about the game. She said that Rare is aiming to create something completely new for the gaming industry. The developers have also made sure that the majority of the game’s content is grounded in reality but has an “Everwild” spin. ”
Everwild needs to be a departure from the norm in the end. Everwild needs to do what Sea of Thieves did for seafaring and capture the wonder of nature. Even though the player does not do much besides walk in games like Death Stranding, every system works brilliantly together to make the player’s journeys exciting and rewarding. Sounds great to be able to heal plants and animals with druidic magic, but the mechanics need to feel natural and immersive to achieve the feel Rare most likely wants.
I’m hoping the extra time will allow the team to perfect the game’s atmosphere.
Everwild setting
The events of Everwild appear to take place in a small number of vibrant environments teeming with exotic flora and fauna. Stunning forests, glistening ponds, snowy mountains, expansive fields of exotic crops, and mysteriously engraved rocks all make appearances in the promotional materials.

One of the most striking features of this world is that it is inhabited entirely by elements of nature. Everwild doesn’t suggest a dystopian future in which nature has reclaimed civilization. The Everwild Director’s Commentary video, however, reveals that this world does have a past. Louise O’Connor, the show’s executive producer, has said, “This isn’t just a natural world, this is a world of history. There is so much out there to learn about. And I believe this image proves the presence and activity of a third party.
Not on the level of Horizon: Zero Dawn, in which plant and animal life have conquered the ruins of technology and modern architecture. Something did, however, call this place home at one time, and now we’re invited to investigate its most beautiful and perilous features.
The Eternals are trying to safeguard the world from certain dangers, as shown in the same video. In one scene, the protagonists build a barrier around a dying tree to protect it from the ravenous locusts. It’s unclear if these locusts will remain a constant nuisance throughout the game.
Everwild PC minimum and recommended requirements
Due to a lack of information, the minimum specifications for Everwild’s PC version are currently unknown. Since both games are powered by Unreal Engine 4, it’s safe to assume they share a similar aesthetic and graphical requirements with Sea of Thieves.
A 4GB hard drive, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card, and an Intel Q9450 or AMD Phenom II X6 processor are the bare minimums for Sea of Thieves. Given that it is designed to debut on the powerful Xbox Series X, however, it is likely to be a fair bit more demanding than this. Sea of Thieves suggests a computer with an Intel i3 7100 or AMD FX-8150 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 710 or AMD Radeon R9 380x graphics processing unit.
Everwild Xbox Game Showcase trailer confirms its an Xbox Series X exclusive
To begin, this trailer is stunning. Frame by frame, Rare’s painterly depiction of nature in all its forms captures the studio’s enchantment and deserves a museum all to itself.
However, this latest cinematic does hint that exploration and interacting with the universe’s pantheon of creatures will be the game’s focal points, which is something we still don’t know for sure about Everwild’s gameplay.
The official blog post for Everwild states that it was “inspired by the beauty of the natural world around us,” and that players “take on the role of an Eternal as you explore and build bonds with the world.”
Everwild story – Eternals, mystical creatures, and symbiotic relationships
Everwild’s story, like many other aspects of the game, is obtuse but intriguing. The developers at Rare confirmed several key details about the world’s lore and creatures in a recent commentary track for the Xbox Game Showcase trailer.
The protagonists of Everwild are known as Eternals, and they appear to be fairly average-looking humans going on adventures. However, the creatures you encounter are anywhere from mildly peculiar to completely out of the ordinary. Strangely, Rare has focused on the friendly interactions players will have with the various creatures in Everwild rather than showing off any of the game’s combat. In the trailer, we see glimpses of what Rare called your “symbiotic” relationship with Everwild’s animals.
Of course, that doesn’t give us the full picture, but it does hint at environmental themes and the importance of human connection to the land and its inhabitants in Everwild.
Everwild X019 trailer – What can we learn?
EVERWILD is Rare’s newest original intellectual property. In a mystical and natural setting, you can have one-of-a-kind adventures.
The trailer for Everwild is embedded above. So far, this is the only video evidence we have of the game. The preview takes us into a vibrant, multicolored fantasy world. There are all sorts of fascinating animals there, from rabbits to deer to regal birds. The creatures, which have leafy appendages and live in packs across a variety of strange biomes, have a supernatural slant.
It seems like the humans who live there are perpetually in awe of these creatures, to the point where they feel completely subservient to them. Some of the animals, like the warthog and sabretooth tiger shown in the trailer, appear much more hostile than others, while the human characters lurk and spy on them.
