You’re here because you want to use the top heroes in HotS (Heroes of the Storm). To make things easier, I’ve compiled the definitive Heroes of the Storm tier list.

Heroes of the Storm is a juggernaut in the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre.

Even though it’s been out for five years, players keep coming back for more of the 90 playable heroes and the constantly evolving gameplay.

In this piece, I want to examine these protagonists and see how they measure up to the rest of the cast. In massively multiplayer online battle arenas, knowing this hierarchy ahead of time is crucial for strategizing play to gain the upper hand.

You’ll also find out which heroes work well together and which ones have a hard time against specific foes.

Let’s jump right in; there’s no time to waste.

Heroes Of The Storm (HOTS) – A Quick Introduction

The multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game Heroes of the Storm was released in June of 2015. Blizzard Entertainment created and published the game; they also released Warcraft III, Diablo III, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, and Overwatch, among many others.

HOTS’s mechanics are very similar to those of other popular multiplayer online battle arenas like League of Legends and Dota II. In these five-on-five matches, players must cooperate to eliminate the enemy stronghold.

Each hero possesses a unique set of skills with which they can aid or hinder their team. Each map has three lanes, and players need to anticipate where their enemy heroes will go and where their allies should go to maximize their experience gains.

HOTS Tier List - Avid Achievers

The talent system is a hallmark of HOTS’s gameplay. At levels 1, 4, and 7, the heroes can pick from a variety of talents. The player must spend gold to acquire these new skills, and they should think carefully about their choices lest their character become severely underpowered.

Heroes of the Storm now features over ninety individual heroes, each with their own set of skills and play style. This makes picking the appropriate hero for the mission challenging for the player. For this reason, we have a ranking system for Heroes of the Storm.

Without further ado, let’s get into the Heroes of the Storm power rankings.

The Tier List

Winning the game is predicated on the synergy, positioning, and coordination of the team as a whole. Therefore, we rank the heroes based on these criteria. Each hero in HOTS fills one of the six roles below.

Heroes whose primary role is to block attacks are called tanks. In battles or team fights, they tend to last longer.

Attacker; not as defensive as tanks. They are a hybrid balance of offense and defense, and have good damage potential to boot.

Heroes who aid their allies with buffs and utility abilities are considered support. On the flip side, they can slow down foes by using debuffs and other status-altering abilities.

Healers are party heroes whose primary role is to heal injured allies and reduce overall damage taken.

A melee assassin is a dedicated close-range attacker who can inflict devastating damage on their targets.

The Ranged Assassin is identical to the Melee Assassin except that they use ranged attacks. When compared to their melee counterparts, they tend to be softer, or easier to kill.

Let’s jump right into the ranking system now.

S-Tier

These characters are likely to be selected early because of the impact they have on the game’s direction. They have excellent statistics and a suite of useful abilities that ensures their team will always come out on top in battle.

Hero Role Description
Mephisto Killer with a Gun Mephisto is a formidable team player and killer. A superb option for clearing the wave and checking in on your teammates. Mephisto’s main weakness is to burst damage, so if you can find a way to exploit that, you’ll have a fantastic meta pick.
Dehaka Bruiser An excellent choice for a tank, as he can stay alive through Essence Collection and crush his foes with massive damage on a single target and in large groups. You really can’t go wrong with this hero.
Junkrat Killer with a Gun The late game scaling, wave clearing, zoning, and long range are just some of Junkrat’s many strengths. It’s a huge plus for this hero that they can damage multiple heroes at once. If you know what you’re doing, he can consistently be a top-tier hero.
He can’t destroy everyone because he’s so soft, so he has to resort to diving and crowd control. When playing Junkrat, you need to be aware of your positioning.
Tychus Killer with a Gun If your opponent has a lot of health, Tychus can help you chip away at it and clear waves of enemies. The only real problem has been his position, which makes him easy to herd.
Diablo Tank When teamed with assassins, Diablo’s self-sustain, damage, and enemy displacement make him an excellent peel option with almost no drawbacks.
Anub’arak Tank This aggressive Tank can easily disrupt the enemy team while maintaining a high position in the rankings. Although his health is lower than that of other tanks, his damage output more than makes up for it.
Maiev Melee Killer As of the latest patch, Maiev is a top-tier pick thanks to a number of improvements, including an extra charge to Vault, increased damage overall, and a silence.
Stukov Healer Although his W was nerfed, Stukov now has more damage and heals, making him a great pick for a healer even before the patch.

A-Tier

A-tier heroes are versatile and work well with allies from other tiers. The majority of the current meta consists of these heroes, so many players will be competent with their abilities.

Hero Role Description
Valla Killer with a Gun While Valla’s Hungering Arrow and Multishot builds were nerfed, she still retains some usefulness thanks to improvements to her auto-attack builds. If she is placed appropriately, she can easily become a top-tier hero.
Brightwing Healer Brightwing’s health and healing have recently been reduced, demoting him a tier. He’s not quite as effective as he once was, but he can still contribute significantly.
Uther Healer Uther has always been a fantastic choice because of his adaptability. He hasn’t gotten any improvements or penalties, but he’s still a top pick.
Lucio Healer Since positioning is not crucial, Lucio’s mobility is what makes him such a good pick, as he is a healer who grants his teammates movement buffs. He’s great at late-game healing and reducing area-of-effect attacks. Lucio’s weak health and lack of early game presence are his only real issues.
Malfurion Healer Malfurion is a fantastic healer and a particularly effective sniper and zoning hero. His versatility and ability to aid foes who rely heavily on mana make him a solid choice.
Falstad Assault Rifleman Able to move to the locations of upcoming battles, giving him an advantage over enemy free-riders. His damage output is high, and he is still a solid pick for skilled players.
Sylvanas Assault Rifleman Despite dealing relatively little damage, Sylvanas’s mobility makes her a nuisance in the backline. What puts her in this tier is her adaptability and her prowess at capturing mercenary camps. You can cause the most damage later in the game by carefully positioning yourself early on.
Leoric Bruiser The best way to deal with enemy tanks is with Leoric’s Drain Hope ability. In addition, the enemy team’s damage output is reduced by his passive, putting them at a disadvantage in team fights.
Muradin Tank A tank that can heal itself quickly is very difficult for the other team to kill. Muradin also possesses a powerful stun ability, expanding his utility.
Hanzo Killer with a Gun Hanzo has the ability to clear waves, poke enemies from a distance, and escape from danger. Overall, he’s a fantastic choice because of how simple it is for him to follow up and/or get involved. Due to his softness, staying at a safe distance is always the best bet, and it’s not all that difficult thanks to his impressive range.
Deathwing Bruiser Deathwing has a ton of health and sturdy armor. Although he moves slowly, his attacks are devastating. What he’s really good at is sieging and making waves. Keep in mind that Deathwing is relatively immobile and immune to buffs as you play him.
Mei Tank Hero with good damage and self-sustain, ideal for crowd control. Keep in mind that teams with lots of mobile heroes will make it difficult to play her.
Zul’jin Killer with a Gun Choose Zul’jin and watch as he quickly dispatches your soft enemies. With his long range and high single-target damage, he can stay out of harm’s way while still clearing waves. Overusing Berserker could end up being counterproductive.
Varian Bruiser Due to his simplistic play style, Varian is simple to learn and use, but also simple to counter. He can adapt to a wide variety of builds and his Taunt ability makes him an excellent peeler.
E.T.C. Tank The versatility of E.T.C. makes him a valuable addition to any roster. He’s a fun character to play in team fights because he’s solid everywhere. His viability has been greatly improved as a result of the patch’s changes to his talents.
Gul’dan Killer with a Gun Capable of making a significant enough impact in team fights thanks to powerful AoE abilities that allow them to clear waves of enemies. His incredible sustain allows him to remain in the lane for much longer than his opponents. Keep a safe distance from the mob control and keep an eye on Gul’dan’s mana and health at all times.
Xul Bruiser Despite his slow movement, Xul’s massive area-of-effect (AoE) damage makes up for his lack of mobility. He can keep a crowd together and under control exceptionally well. One of the drawbacks of having excellent pushing skills is that you become an easy target for ganks and crowd control.
Cassia Killer with a Gun Cassia’s weakness is that, despite being a ranged assassin, she has a short effective range. However, she still has a high damage potential, so using her properly requires skill.
Rexxar Bruiser Excellent crowd control and ability to use Misha to gain the upper hand as a solo laner. After losing his ally Misha, Rexxar’s effectiveness plummets significantly due to his lack of mobility.
Chromie Killer with a Gun Chromie excels at long range and poke, and her burst damage is formidable. She is an excellent choice because the patch hasn’t affected her. Her high learning curve, low durability, and high susceptibility to crowd control are all drawbacks for players.
Sonya Bruiser An aggressive bruiser who can deal massive damage to a single foe while still maintaining decent health. Sonya’s only weakness is her short range, making her vulnerable to kiting.
Hogger Bruiser Hogger excels at calming down crowds, clearing out waves, and overrunning mercenary bases. Longer battles favor him because he uses anger instead of mana. The best way to deal with Hogger is to poke at him and move around.
Zeratul Melee Killer High burst damage, but his skills’ slow animations give enemies time to prepare for it. Although Zeratul’s low health is a drawback, mastering this hero will make you a formidable threat to the opposing team in ganks and other situations.
Tyrael Tank Tyrael’s mobility and skill at isolating foes make him a solid pick, and his ability to peel for his allies is icing on the cake. Try pairing Tyrael with another frontliner who is good at controlling crowds if you’re still learning the ropes.
Medivh Support Medivh is one of the most difficult heroes to master, so only a small number of pre-made squads will use him because of his combat effectiveness. Once defeated, this hero presents an insurmountable obstacle.
Anduin Healer The fact that Anduin can both heal his teammates and rescue them from certain death increases his value to the team. Excellent at both damaging foes and healing allies.
Imperius Bruiser In addition to having a respectable damage output and a useful stun ability, Imperius also has high survivability in both team and solo fights. Ideal for teams looking for a multi-purpose leader. Keep in mind that he is immobile and highly reliant on Celestial Charge.
Jaina Killer with a Gun The status effects that Jaina can unleash on the opposing team are particularly effective. However, her cooldowns are excruciatingly lengthy, so timing is of the essence when employing them.
Garrosh Tank Garrosh is another hero with a high armor rating, and he’s useful in team fights because he makes it easier to single out and kill an enemy hero.
Stitches Tank In addition to being tanky and having great sustain, Stitches’ hook is what makes him so good, making him a great option for picking off enemies and putting them at a disadvantage. This massive slab of meat has a serious mobility issue. Keep in mind that the enemy team will look for an opportunity to engage after the hook’s cooldown has ended so that he can pick off enemies.
Nazeebo Killer with a Gun Nazeebo was always powerful, but the new patch dropped him to the A tier. When it comes to zoning, crowd control, and burst damage, Nazeebo more than makes up for his lack of mobility and early game strength.
Blaze Tank Strong both in a group and on her own. With her powers, Blaze can also displace her adversaries. Her lack of mobility and the fact that some of her abilities require skill shots are drawbacks.
Tassadar Assault Rifleman Tassadar can pick off enemies from a distance and deal a lot of damage in a wide area. This hero is most effective when used at choke points, or concentrations of enemies. His abilities are easily avoided, making him a frustrating pick against mobile foes.
Li-Ming Assault Rifleman Because of his annoying teleport, Li-Ming has learned to be a resilient hero. While she is effective against single heroes, she struggles to clear waves.
Malthael Bruiser With little effort, Malthael can clear waves effectively. The simplicity of his game makes him easy to play against and counter.
Morales, Lt. Healer Excellent for teaming up with roamers due to its powerful single-target healing. However, Lt. Morales becomes a liability in the later stages of the match due to the absence of group healing.
Ragnaros Bruiser If you need to push a lane while also being able to defend it when enemies arrive, Ragnaros is a solid pick.

My HoTs Tier list *based on hero strength and my personal opinion* - General Discussion - Heroes of the Storm Forums

B-Tier

These heroes are powerful and versatile, whether you need them for team fights, pushing, roaming, or lane defense.

Hero Role Description
Chen Bruiser Chen is difficult to eliminate and can annoy his foes with his perseverance and skill. It’s difficult for him to get through the wave of heroes who keep interrupting him.
Deckard Healer Deckard is useful because he can both deal and heal damage. He can effectively zone out foes thanks to his respectable range. The area-of-effect attacks are useful for clearing waves and stopping the opposing team from advancing.
Samuro A Killer With A Hammer Samuro is useful against inexperienced foes because they will likely confuse him with his clones. More seasoned players, on the other hand, will have no trouble at all handling this.
Kharazim Healer Khazarim is a multi-talented hero who can both heal his allies and do damage in battle. This means he doesn’t particularly excel at any other facet of the game.
Cho’gall Tank This hero is praised for his/her excellent waveclear, late-game prowess, and large health pool. When picking him, keep in mind that his strong late game comes at the expense of his weak early game.
Ana Healer This patch gave Ana some buffs, making her a more attractive pick for teams with heroes who rely heavily on spellcasting. She is also very good at reducing the effectiveness of enemy heals, but is easily killed by enemies who dive her.
Kerrigan Melee Killer Kerrigan is somewhat of a one-trick pony, capable of inflicting massive damage thanks to her skill combos but lacking in adaptability.
Abathur Support If Abathur were in a well-balanced party, he might be able to advance several levels. His unconventional style of play may not work in most games, but he shines in premade squads.
Yrel Bruiser Another hero who gets early attention in team fights because of the nuisance her damage can cause if left unchecked. In the late game, she struggles against kiting and crowd control.
Genji Assault Rifleman Genji’s high mobility and moderate damage make him a blast to use in battle. He can quickly get the jump on opposing teams and often starts fights.
Azmodan Assault Rifleman Azmodan poses a threat to his opponents due to his ability to quickly clear waves. Azmodan isn’t particularly effective in team battles.
Lunara Killer with a Gun Due to her poison, Lunara is useful for putting pressure on her enemies. Even if it doesn’t always kill them, it makes them much more wary of pulling up in team fights.
Whitemane Healer When Whitemane heals, the amount of health restored is proportional to the amount of damage inflicted on the enemy. This makes her more of a liability in team fights if played incorrectly, especially for newer players who are still learning the ropes.
Greymane Killer with a Gun Because of his high burst damage and moderate threat of harassing the enemy, Greymane is a reliable choice.
Qhira Melee Killer Qhira is a close combat character with high damage output, but she requires expert control to unleash her full potential.
D.Va Bruiser D.Va is not so much a threat as she is a bait for opposing teams. As a denial ability, her Self-Destruct has a significant impact on opposing teams.
Thrall Bruiser Thrall’s solo lane mana and sustain issues have been greatly reduced thanks to his new buffs. If the enemy doesn’t immediately zero in on Thrall, his power increases exponentially. Nonetheless, a wise choice
Johanna Tank High vitality means you have a good chance of survival. Also, Johanna has a much higher wave clear rate than most other tanks.
The Legend of the Lost Vikings Support Due to their high degree of micromanagement, the Lost Vikings can only be used effectively by the most skilled players. On the plus side, they have exceptional pushing and zoning abilities.
Orphea Killer with a Gun Kills can be difficult to come by with Orphea due to her moderate damage but lack of burst.
Tyrande Healer Tyrande’s terrible mobility and high skill cap prevent her from being ranked higher. However, in the right hands, her healing can be quite effective.
Kael’thas Assault Rifleman Every single battle is led by Living Bomb’s orders. If used correctly, it can cause enemy units to scatter, making them easier to pursue.
Fenix Killer with a Gun Fenix excels at clearing waves of enemies and dealing heavy damage to the opponent. The ability to teleport out of trouble spots is crucial for solo pushing.

C-Tier

These heroes are fairly typical figures who don’t particularly stand out but can be useful in certain contexts.

Hero Role Description
Valeera Assasin who kills with a single blow Valeera is helpful when you need to zero in on the most dangerous enemy player. Her performance improves when she is part of a mobile assassination team rather than on her own.
Alexstrasza Healer A solid pick if you need a healer who can also perform well in a contested zone. The problem with Alextrasza is that she isn’t a very efficient healer by herself.
Illidan A Killer With A Hammer When used by a skilled player, Illidan can be devastating. He excels as a roamer when accompanied by other support heroes.
Zagara Killer with a Gun Zagara contributes by driving the group forward and giving them direction. Unfortunately, she doesn’t perform as well in team fights.
Auriel Healer Auriel’s healing power is situational because it is tied to her partner. Teams with Auriel need to carefully plan who will accompany her into the lanes.
Murky Melee Killer Murky’s fragility makes him a pain to use in the early to mid game. Even so, he is most useful late in the game, so plan accordingly.
Gazlowe Expert assassin in close quarters combat He excels at lane pushing and zoning opponents within his lane but is largely useless in team fights.
Zarya Support Zarya’s shield abilities make her better suited to reducing damage dealt to allies than dealing it herself.
Hammer, Sgt. Killer with a Gun Useful for low-impact attacks to annoy and distract opponents.
Artanis Bruiser Most players will be put off by Artanis because of his high skill cap, but he is a powerful character once his abilities are mastered.
Arthas Tank When it comes to protecting allies, Arthas isn’t as good as when he’s attacking. However, his poor mobility reduces the effectiveness of all that damage.
Raynor Assault Rifleman Raynor is a sturdy offensive protagonist who can stay alive in combat while still dealing heavy damage. Raynar’s playstyle limits his usefulness beyond that point. He’s great for newcomers to the game, so including one in your party won’t slow you down too much.
Alarak Assasin who kills with a single blow Alarak is a genuine killer. His high burst damage makes him a good complement to heroes who excel at isolating and eliminating lone foes. He’s hard to get a handle on and lacks in waveclear.
Kel’Thuzad Killer with a Gun His skill combos are devastating, but he lacks the lockdown skills necessary to initiate fights or finish them off.
Tracer Killer with a Gun Due to her low health, Tracer is usually unable to participate in the thick of the action. After a fight has ended, she can easily move around and deal enough damage to track down any remaining opponents.

D-Tier

To bring out the best in these heroes, you’ll need a well-coordinated and balanced party. They should be used with caution, and only if the situation warrants it.

Hero Role Description
Rehgar Healer If you’re looking for a reliable healer, you should go elsewhere. Rehgar’s combat effectiveness stems from his respectable attack power and nimble footwork.
Mal’Ganis Tank Although Mal’ganis’s sustained damage and self-healing make him a valuable lane harasser, he lacks the disable skills necessary to contribute in team fights.

F-Tier

The Nexus is rife with superior options to these Heroes.

Hero Role Description
Probius Assault Rifleman It takes a lot of preparation for Probius to kill an opponent. The fact that he has so little health isn’t helping matters.
The Meat Cutter Deadly Expert in Close Quarters Combat If The Butcher is able to make any kind of impact in the game, early control is crucial.
Li Li Tank Even with her buffs, Li Li isn’t particularly strong, but she’s a good pick for beginners learning the healer role.
Nova Killer with a Gun Although Nova is a breeze to control, she is best utilized by using her Snipe ability, which frequently puts her at a disadvantage in battle.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are MOBA-style games?

Multiplayer Online Battle Arena is an acronym for that. Games of this type typically feature two opposing teams vying to achieve a common goal, such as eliminating the opposing team’s base or leader.

2. Why using the Heroes of the Storm tier list is important?

Using a tier list can help you choose some of your favorite characters or inform your decision on whether to purchase that hero with real money by telling you how strong each character is in relation to the other characters.

3. How do the Heroes of the Storm tier list work?

Each hero is evaluated against the others and given a relative score. When going up against a skilled opponent, your best bet is to make sure your team includes at least one hero from the S-tier. The heroes get progressively weaker as we move down the list, with the E-tier heroes being the weakest of all.

4. How often do you update the HOTS tier list?

Every time a new patch is released, or if we decide certain heroes need to be moved up or down, we update the tier list. This means the list could theoretically shift several times in a single month.

5. How was the HOTS tier list built?

We classify each hero into roles like Solo Lane, Bruiser, or Support. The heroes’ individual abilities and potential effectiveness in comparison to other heroes are then analyzed using our professional expertise and statistics gathered from professional players.

6. Which tier includes the best heroes?

Only heroes who are widely regarded as overpowered are promoted to S tier. Among the cast, these individuals hold the key to turning the tables in a fight. A or B-grade is also a safe bet because it’s quite powerful.

7. Is using this Heroes of the Storm tier list cheating?

It is not dishonest to consult a Heroes of the Storm tier list. You should step up your game if you find yourself solely relying on one hero, but if that happens frequently, you should investigate the other heroes’ skills.

Malf, Lucio, Anduin, Whitemane, and Deckard are the best healers in Heroes of the Storm. These heroes have sufficient strength to aid the team in battle.

The storm’s saviors can, in fact, be brought in. As a result, there are some broken or overly simplistic heroes and strategies. It is difficult to win games that require traversing the map and eliminating an opponent without resorting to strategy.

10. How do you rank up in Heroes of the Storm?

The beginning of the game is the best time to work out a strategy and coordinate with your teammates. Reduce the size of your roster if it will help you level up those heroes more quickly. After that, you should eliminate meta shifts and check the win rates after a winning streak.

11. How Many Heroes in the HOTS?

You should also know that there are 6.5 million players of Hots from all over the world and that there are a total of 90 heroes in the entire Heroes of the Strom video game.
