Our Granblue Fantasy ranking system is presented below. Do you want just any characters, or the best ones? Using this ranking, you can better focus your efforts and achieve victory.

Cygames’ Granblue Fantasy is a powerhouse title featuring original music by Final Fantasy’s legendary composer, Nobuo Uematsu.

Its charming story and engaging gameplay loop have earned it widespread acclaim.

The game’s diverse cast of characters is the icing on the cake. Crystals or tickets are used in the same way that they are in other gacha games to randomly summon a unit from a large pool.

The following is a ranking of the characters’ importance to completing the game.

Keep reading to learn how much of your time you should spend on each GBF unit.

Super-Super-Rare (SSR) and extremely rare (SR) items are not included. Rarer units in Granblue Fantasy will always be more powerful than their more common counterparts.

What is Granblue Fantasy?

Cygames’ Granblue Fantasy is a gacha RPG featuring music by Final Fantasy legend Nobuo Uematsu and character designs by Hideo Minaba. Gran (or Djeeta, the female protagonist’s name) meets a mysterious young woman named Lyria. When your life is in danger, Lyria’s power bonds to your soul to keep you alive, and you’ll never be able to live without her again. The Empire plans to kidnap Lyria, which is good news if you value your life but bad news if you wish to negotiate with them.

As you progress through the story and add more gacha characters to your team, you’ll meet several new allies, reassemble an airship, and travel the world of Granblue Fantasy. Granblue Fantasy has been out since March 2014, making it an older game, but the game’s continued updates and beloved story have kept it popular. Although it cannot be denied that the game’s older design makes very little use of the screen on modern smartphones, and that navigating menus is slow, almost like navigating pages in a web browser, the game still has a beautiful aesthetic. Despite being a product of its era, it looks stunning and has a charming feel to play.

The gameplay is standard for a gacha RPG, but the art direction, character designs, and story are among the best in the genre. This is a proper Japanese role-playing game story told in a random-number generator format, with all the pros and cons that entails. Even though there are newer gacha RPGs out there, it is clear why this one has such a devoted fan base. This game has the same level of polish as other Cygames releases like Dragalia Lost, which automatically sets it apart from the pack when compared to other gacha RPGs.

Granblue Fantasy makes a strong argument despite the fact that it has been nearly six years since its initial release. Even taking into account the minor pain you’ll have to go through in order to install it, this gacha RPG has a high enough mark of quality to make it easily recommendable over other gacha RPGs on the market. Because of this, the story of Granblue Fantasy has been adapted into an anime series, with the first season being dubbed in English for international audiences. This is all happening before the app has even been released on the App Store and Google Play outside of Japan. And this leads us to…

How to play Granblue Fantasy

You may be wondering how you’re supposed to play this game, since we’ve already established that it isn’t officially available outside of Japan. Well, Cygames had planned to officially release the game overseas at first, but they scrapped those plans when they realized that players in other countries could simply download.apk files for their Android device, or temporarily change the region of their iOS accounts, and play the game.

  • We won’t tell you where to look for.apk files, but be careful because installing the wrong one can have serious consequences. It’s possible that apk files on your Android device could compromise its security or your personal information.

It was decided to launch the game in both Japanese and English because there were already foreign players having trouble keeping up with the Japanese version. Either locate an.apk file for your Android device or switch your iOS account’s region to Japan, then download the game; the “Set Language” option will appear in the main menu shortly thereafter. Although you might have to fumble through creating a guest account to begin the game first…

You won’t even notice that you’re playing a foreign version of the game once you’ve set the language; everything is translated automatically. One caveat, though: the screens that prompt you to confirm premium currency expenditures are still written in Japanese and may throw you off. If you’re confused by what they’re saying, just hit the Back button and move on.

Where to start? Mobile game, anime, or fighting game?

We’ve spent a lot of time discussing the gacha mobile JRPG Granblue Fantasy, but you may be wondering if you’d have more fun with the anime series or the upcoming fighting game.

Now, naturally, we here at Pocket Gamer would advocate for the mobile game. Beautiful music and a charming hand-drawn aesthetic make this a wonderful take on the gacha RPG formula.

However, if you’re just looking for a relaxing way to take in Granblue Fantasy’s story at your own pace, the anime series is an excellent choice.

Arc System Works also developed a fighting game titled Granblue Fantasy Versus. It’s already out there with English language settings for international audiences, but it might be hard to follow if you aren’t familiar with the Granblue Fantasy cast. However, if you aren’t too concerned with the plot and just want to watch some good fight scenes, this is a great option.
